When massage therapist Sandy Reichard had to close her Sussex business for 10½ weeks last spring because of the pandemic, she did not know whether it would survive.

But when she reopened, she discovered that during the shutdown, people had learned how important it is to take care of themselves, she said.

With social media and word of mouth, she picked up more clients, and all of a sudden, she became very busy.

Prompted by the increased demand, Reichard, who owns Kneaded Time Massage in Sussex, just opened a second location in downtown Menomonee Falls.

Her new location is inside Thrive Family Chiropractic, N88 W16644 Appleton Ave.

"I believe God had protected me, and He is bringing me through a new stage of life," she said.

'Always wanted to help people'


Reichard said she always wanted a career to change people's lives. "I always wanted to help people," she said. "For a long time, I never knew what that (career) would be."

But when she was introduced to massage therapy, she instantly fell in love with it and knew this was what she was meant to do. She graduated from Blue Sky School of Professional Massage & Therapeutic Bodywork in 2010.

Since she also completed her training through the Washington County School of Esthetics in Slinger to become a stated licensed esthetician during the pandemic, she can now offer skin services in addition to massage services.

She opened Kneaded Time Massage in Sussex, N63 W23583 Main St, five years ago.

It was the first business she owned, she said.

"Starting a business is daunting, but the day-to-day stuff is not bad," she said.

She is certified to do massages, such as a warm bamboo massage, which uses heated bamboo sticks and promotes relaxation, loosens muscle tension, increases circulation and relieves anxiety. She is certified to do massages that specialize for people with cancer, HIV/AIDS and have orthopedic pain.

She said she does more therapeutic messages where she finds the problem with the muscle or with muscle tension and then she fixes the problem.

"Giving massages is interpersonal, and I can build rapport with clients," she said. "They become like family. It (the massages) means so much to the clients."

She said she chose to open her second location in downtown Menomonee Falls because she likes how all the businesses support each other. "They all have our back," she said. "That is what I need."

She is participating in the Greater Menomonee Falls Foundation Farmers Market to showcase her services and wants to educate more people on what massage therapy can offer.

"I want to show people that it is therapeutic, and it helps relieve stress," she said.
