Asking questions in class

Ok. So I ask questions in class. They are on subject and are serious questions, not an affirmation of what I've heard simply to hear myself talk or to have the instructor know I'm paying attention in class.I just learn this weekend, however, that a good (vs bad) third of the class generally roll their eyes and complain under their breath when I ask a question. I wonder if it's the same group of students are habitually talking/whispering when the teacher is talking/lecturing. Funny thing was, however, was that the question I asked and the subsequent explanation, also helped about half the class because they didn't understand it either but didn't ask. (I also sit back satisfied that the grade I received last semester justifies any discomfort my fellow students may get from my questions {some of whom only barely passed the class}.)Sorry. This is a total venting I know and I apologize. But I'm not gonna spend 10 grand and hold my questions back!Okay. I feel better now.

Asking questions in class

too bad for your classmates that aren't supportive of your quest for knowledge. on the other hand, it's okay to approach your instructor after class to have a more in-depth conversation of the subject.i guess it depends on whether you're looking for clarity or wanting a more comprehensive view on the subject.i'd also keep in mind that your instructors have only so much time in their class to impart a lot of information that must be covered.in any case, keep asking questions. you're paying for school and you're entitled to glean as much as you can for it.good luck

My instructors always said the only stupid questions were the ones we Didn't Ask! So, if you really want to know, keep asking! As others have said, there's probably other students in the class who aren't "getting it" either.And let's face it...some people are naturally Good Teachers, and others are not. So you  help the teacher to better clarify what they are teaching and where they too may be "falling short."   ;D

Asking questions in class

We had one lady in our class who asked a lot of questions. I didn't ask, mainly because I'd just been through anatomy in college, but she never fully understood. When she asked and the teacher would clarify, some of the students got annoyed, but I always LOVED hearing things explained in different ways. Keep asking questions, because everyone learns that way.

Just the fact that you say you're not asking because you like to hear yourself talking makes us all realize that you're not one of those people.  They never know who they are.  We have all had those people in class and yes, I was one who was rolling my eyes at them  : hehehehehe.  In fact, I probably started the whole eye rolling thing.  As everyone states here, keep asking questions.  But truly know that you don't know the answer before you ask it.  Why do people do that?  (ask questions they already know the answer to)

I'm one of those people who asks a lot of questions. The sciences are difficult enough for me that if I have a resource to answer what I don't understand, I'm going to use it!There are a number of people in our class who roll their eyes, and have made joking comments about it, but I know they benefit at least some of the time. Besides, I'm paying for my education, not them!

I always ask questions.  Even the ones that seem a bit redundant or stupid to the rest of the people.  But I always say to myself: "I paid for this class and that means I want to walk out of here knowing, not wondering!"

Asking questions in class

You should definately ask questions, you are on the course and therefore should expect to get the education you desire / need. If that means asking a question then ask away, as others have said I bet others in the group want to ask but are too afraid.And also don't forget, because you seek to clarify your understanding of a matter you will be far better prepared for your exams and assesments!Good luck and enjoy it.Mat xxx
