Shohei Ohtani is a Japanese player, aged 23, who can hit and pitch, similar to how Babe Ruth could do the same.
Babe Ruth was the best player ever. No one even compares to Ruth's numbers. Ruth hit 714 home runs during a time when the teams were fewer and the fences were further back. Ruth had over 2,000 runs, over 2,000 RBI, and a career on-base pecentag of .474. Those numbers are beyond amazing. To top that off, Ruth was a great pitcher. He finished with a WHIP total of 1.16 and only allowed 10 home runs to batters he faced despite pitching over 1200 innings.
Think about that for a moment. Ruth hit 714 home runs, but he only allowed 10 home runs against in 1200 innings pitched. Ruth hit home runs like it was batting practice, but he made it so difficult for opposing batters to hit home runs against him. Ruth was incredible. Ruth's numbers are so good, there will never be another player even close to him in talent, ever again. Ruth was more dominant in baseball than Jordan was in basketball. That's how good Babe Ruth was.
So, now we have Shohei Ohtani. He has hit 2 home runs so far and he pitched 6 strong innings on the mound for the Los Angeles Angels. People are raving about his talent level, but that just puts Ruth's numbers - which will obviously always be greater than Ohtani's - in even better perspective.
That brings us to matures, like Sweet Alice. Sweet Alice is so great, so Ruthian, that we sometimes forget how great she is when we discuss new talent in the industry. Much like how Ohtani is the talk of baseball this year, but if he is to be considered the best of the best in modern MLB terms, then we have to pay even greater respect to the better numbers that Ruth put up, by comparison. And when we discuss new talent and how great they are, we have to also pay great respect to Sweet Alice and other matures who are so amazing, but sometimes forgotten.
Sweet Alice is so fucking beautiful. She is my Babe Ruth. Because like my understanding of baseball, I too understand Sweet Alice to be the best of the best.
