Chinese boy goes to foot spa for treatment of nail infection, ends up losing finger - WION

A four-year-old Chinese boy lost his finger after his father took him to a foot massage shop to get treatment for his nail fungal infection.


The boy was taken to the Luozhendong Foot Massage Parlour, which is in Chongqing Municipality of China, for treatment of an infection in his left index fingernail in July 2023, as reported by China Consumer News.

Here's how the mishap happened​

According to the shop, they had a medicine called “nail removing cream," which they claimed could solve the problem of the boy.


The doctors applied the cream on the infected fingernail of the boy and bound it up using an elastic bandage. The father paid the parlour 600 yuan (US$86) for the treatment.


After two days, the father discovered that the finger of his son had atrophied and turned black. The boy was rushed to a hospital where the doctors diagnosed gangrene in his finger.


The doctors stated that the left index fingertip of Lin needed to be amputated to prevent the infection from spreading further.


The boy was graded as a 10th-class handicap and his father sought more than 200,000 yuan (US$29,000) in compensation from the shop, which refused tp pay.


The matter was taken by the father to the local district consumer council in February.


The council found that the “nail removing cream” was not properly licensed. They claimed that it just had sterilisation properties and was not able to cure anything.


The council also found that the name of the shop was different from what was written on their business license.


The shop was held responsible for making the boy handicapped and appealed to suspend its business and provide a compensation of 160,000 yuan (US$23,000) to the boy’s family.
