Recently, many blind people in Da Nang’s Hai Chau District have received training in massage and kneading, allowing them to have stable jobs and generate income to support themselves and their families.
Mr. Huynh Tho, Chairman of the Blind Association of Hai Chau District, said that the Association is currently managing 94 members, including 40 women, and 2 blind children. The Association has always paid regular attention to creating jobs and income for its members.
Most recently, the Association has spent VND 16.6 million on investing in equipment, purchasing towels and bedding, and repairing electricity and water systems for sake of improving service quality to attract more customers to use healthcare services. This aims to contribute to improving the Association's operational capacity and maintaining employment for the blind.
Located at 425 Hoang Dieu Street, the massage facility under the management of the Blind Association of Hai Chau District has always been stable. The facility is providing jobs for 21 people.
In addition, there are 6 massage service establishments owned by the Association’s members that have created regular jobs for more than 30 blind people with a monthly income of VND 4.5 - 5.5 million/person.
Mrs. Luu Thi Thu Hai, 40, residing in Hai Chau District, has 20 years of experience in body massage. She said that the job here gave her enough income to support herself and help her husband raise children.
“I have tried many jobs such as making incense and toothpicks but found this job the most suitable. After being trained, I always self-study to know how to recognise each acupuncture point on the body to satisfy customers, helping them improve their health” Mrs. Hai shared.
“Massage is considered to be suitable for the blind. At the same time, it helps the Associations at all levels have more funds to operate, whilst helping the blind have income to improve their quality of life. We have organised instructions on hot stone massage methods for all technicians to serve customers. And this service receives positive feedback from customers” said Mr. Huynh Tho, Chairman of the Association of the Blind of Hai Chau District.
The Association has sent 2 members to participate in the 2024 massage skills competition organised by the municipal Association of the Blind and won 2 consolation prizes, and 2 other members to take part in a training course on bone and joint adjustment and acupuncture organised by the Viet Nam - France Medical Support Association.
Mr. Huynh Tho, Chairman of the Association of the Blind in Hai Chau District, hoped that more training classes on massage and acupressure services will be opened so that the blind can be trained more systematically, meeting the increasing needs of customers.
