Do you agree that kids should not be introduced to religion just yet?

It hurts me to see kids entangled in religion, I know their parents have good intentions but you have to admit that it falls under brainwashing. If you constantly tell a kid that Jesus died for our sins he/she will grow up to believe just that; he/she wouldn't give a damn about the prophet Mohamed or anyone else.
Mental abuse is not a nice thing thats why I dont do it to my daughter, sure I tell my daughter not lie, cheat steal...etc. But I will never tell hoer how the earth came to be and which religion and God is real. Reason is because I dont know for sure and those are MY views, thats right they are mine and it doesn't mean its right. She asked the questions once or twice and I tell her Everything. I tell her the earth could have came from the big bang, the christian God, Muslim God, Hindu Gods....etc, and then finally I tell her "I am not sure".
The reason I do this is because my daughter looks up to me and she literally believes everything I say, so by telling my daughter "Jesus died for our sins", I am brainwashing a little girl before her mind even developed. The sad thing is that 90% of people did not find religion on their own, instead they were born into it which is real frightening.

Once again nothing is wrong with religion but I think people should find it on their own as ADULTS when their minds are fully developed. This way they can question stuff like "a woman was made from a man's rib, a virgin had a baby, talking snakes....etc". If my daughter wants to believe that when she grows up then fine, but I refuse to be the one to tell her that while her brain has no reasoning and she cant use logic just yet. I know someone will say that I am sending my daughter to hell, but I am pretty sure she wont go to hell if she dies because God is not evil and he doesn't expect a little girl to be religious.
Would you like if someone mentally abused you? We are introducing a generation of brainwashed people and we must stop, if God wanted us to be born with religious thoughts then he would have made us that way. Plus I know thousands of people who found God on their own, so their is no need for brainwashing....thats just my opinion. What do you think??????

I was taught about Jesus from the day I was born but it wasn't until i decided on my own that my eternity changed at all. As always it depends on their approach.

I've made sure my daughter is aware of critical issues of many different faiths. She can identify various religious symbols & has a working knowledge of the various dietary requirements and other elements that helps her to respectfully interact with others from different cultural/spiritual backgrounds.

When she was 4 she turned a Barbie skirt into a Muslim-like scarf.

I think it's the parents business, and what they do is none of our business. ANY repetitive teaching, can be classified as "brainwashing"... be it secular OR non.

I see it like this. I taught my children what I think is the very best thing for them, and it included, my beliefs around God, as well as ANYTHING else I thought was BEST for them. My teaching, combined with what they learn at all public schools in science, be it evolution, big bang .. and other theories, then CREATED a balance. THEY INDEED learned science, as well as MY beliefs.

As adults, or young adults they then CHOSE what THEY wanted to believe.... from all of the Information available, and could weigh out in their OWN minds, and experiences... LIKE WE ALL DO.

My beliefs certainly didn't harm them, and it didn't mean that they couldn't decide what they believed on their own, at all.

Many of the atheists on here were raised in "religious" or Christian homes, and have turned from that, and decided what they believe on their own. No harm done that can be pegged conveniently on the parents. It's YOUR OWN CHOICE.

WE ALL DECIDE WHAT WE BELIEVE ON OUR OWN. JUST LIKE YOU HAVE.

But, parents are not their children's only teacher.

I was raised in the church. It didn't take.

FYI: Your children may hear what you say, they absorb what you do. Relax. Enjoy your kids.

I believe in Choice. Give your child the choice to believe in what ever he, or she wishes to believe. Introduce them to all the options they have, and let them make up their own minds. Let them learn on their own. Answer their questions true-fully, don't persuade them either way, and they will be just fine. Yes you are right. Don't brainwash them into believing in what you believe. That is where people go wrong. Teach them that there are all different types of alternatives out there, and persuade them to do the research. Teach them to learn, not to rely on blind faith. If you want to know about something, research it, study it, and come up with your own conclusion. If we quit trying to program our children, and let them learn on their own, They will grow up to be smarter, better adults.

Kids are people they can make up their mind if they want to in America. Kids don't even be in the church like that anyways. Most of the time I was in churches they would preach to the older people and have the children go play or go to bible study in the back of the church.

I know what you mean, and that's why I advocate that people not "potty train" their child until they are old enough to decide for themselves; and they should not teach their children manners, respect, and obedience to authorities, until they are old enough to decide for themselves; and that they should not be forced to go to school and be brainwashed into learning things. They should be allowed to wait until they are - what? - 18? - before an education is forced upon them!

no i don't agree, but everyone won't bring up their child(ren) in the same fashion .But just like God doesn't more on His children more than they can bear , nor will I. Children in each generation are smarter than the last and catch on quicker than you would expect them , they will surprise you of what they know and possibly understand. I only think it's a bad thing if they're taught that their religion is the only possibility there is. For example, in history class today we were talking about Jewish people and my teacher was explaining how they don't think Jesus was the messiah. (Obviously I've known this since like 3rd grade, but kids are stupid and only care about TV and the Internet now.) This kid blurted out: "Well they're stupid!" For gosh sake, lol. Have some respect.

In my home religion is not a topic to avoid. I engage with my children if they have questions and I don't shelter them from what is around them. I mean they are going to have questions if friends start asking them to come to church or temple! As it is, my 10 yo and 8yo are studying World Religions this year and I think it's wonderful. My 10 yo also recently identified herself as pagan. My 8 yo identifies as Christian. Both of them know that they do not have to commit as of yet and that they may change over time. My hubs and I will be right there to help them if they are ever at a crossroads. I would rather be by their side and help them learn then to shelter them and allow someone else to get into their head.
