...how much would it cost)? My friend and I are thinking of going from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to Staffordshire, United Kingdom to visit friends this upcoming August for a month. I know nothing about booking flights, so can you guys help me out? What airlines should I take, and how much do you think it'll cost for the round trip?

You don't have much choice in Canada: Air Canada flies to UK and that's it. If you can get a seat sale price it might be around 1200. There might be charter flights in the summer. Since you are a newbie I suggest you go to a proper Travel Agent to arrange this, rather than trying to do it all yourself online.
Oh and your flight will probably go to London or Manchester. Then you could get a train to Staffordshire. Trains are good there, you can see the countryside.

All you really need to do is put " Edmonton London flights" in your search bar, and you'll get some sites. Or even " Canada UK flights". I've had good luck with flightcentre.ca.

On all these websites, you can pretend you're actually booking the flight, go through the whole process so you can see the true cost of the flight, see what flight schedules are, etc etc, and until you enter a credit card number and your personal info you're not committed to buying. I say the true cost because very often the price you see at first isn't what you end up paying. There is usually tax and fees to be added on. Check for different airports in the UK, too. I understand that Heathrow is one of the more expensive airports to fly into because its fees are high. Manchester is probably cheaper. Also don't forget that prices can be quite different on different days of the week.
