Hobbying as an Uber Driver

Thought I'd share this with you guys.

I recently started driving Uber on top of my day job to make a bit of extra cash and because I actually like talking to strangers and hearing their stories. It's super easy to get started too.

Ive actually found that it's an unexpectedly very good compliment to hobbying.

1) You end up in different parts of the city that you might otherwise not visit so you can try out MP's that you wouldn't normally go visit.

2) Excellent alibi if you're looking to be out late at night and have a wife/gf who might otherwise be suspicious.

3) I pick up a lot of hot girls - can have a friendly/flirty conversation with them (without crossing the line into creepy), be professional until I drop them off and then take the built up sexual tension out on a willing MP.

4) Since you're making between $20-35 per hour (not including gas and car maintenance) and the driver app shows you how long you've been driving and how much you've made it provides a bit of a check. I need that otherwise I'd be broke.

So far have only been doing it for a week and already had one dude in town for a business trip ask me which MP he should go to. He seemed a bit embarrassed to ask at first and didn't expect me to rattle off a list of top places. Got a good tip for that one!

My brother and I tried the Uber thing once a couple years ago on New Years Eve to see who could rake in the most dough. IIRC, I made just over $400 and he was in 400s as well. Ultimately we decided that even on the busiest day of the year it wasn't really worth it. After factoring in gas, maintenance and depreciation, the payout averaged about $18/hour. Would have been thrilled with that in my college years, but not so much now.

True, but you can probably find a really good, clean car that's around ten years old. It won't depreciate much more than it already has. Most cars depreciate most of its value in its first eight years or so. After that there's little or no value remaining to lose.

I'm not really that concerned about depreciation on the car. It's a 2011 that already has almost 200K km on it. Have kept it in good condition with regular oil changes. I'm not a fancy car guy so I'll be driving it until it's dead.

My day job has good pay and is pretty much 9—6. I come home have dinner with the family and drive for 3-4 hours at night that I'd normally just be wasting time on my phone or listening to the wife nag before going to sleep. Last week made $600 after tax and had some very interesting conversations along the way.

From a hobby perspective my route took me to places like Perla and Pure which are usually very out of the way for me (Im usually on the West End closer to Flirt Finch and Seduction). No one I wanted to see was available when I dropped in but enjoyed seeing the facilities (lobby at least) and meeting the he girls who were available. Will try to plan ahead a bit more this week and make an appointment but the one drawback is that it's harder to plan than to do a walk-in and hope you get lucky

I thought uber might be fun, but one thing that worries me is getting drunk people. If you're driving around sober people and are having great conversations it must be a lot of fun. But what if someone calls you up, you go to pick them up, but they are drunk af, obnoxious and piss/throw up in the car?

^I've had American and Japanese brands. My friends had German brands. They all rust after 10 years or so against Canadian road salt.

Anything mechanical can be fixed (including shitty Chrysler transmissions), but rust is like cancer.

Yep, and Uber has a rating system, so you can avoid taking lower-rated passengers.

Even if that's true, you now start in the hole and have to pay off what the extra vehicle cost you. I'd only do that if you were sure the market you're in is lucrative.

No kidding. Vomit fumes can be lethal. There are strong natural chemicals in stomach that are used to break down food so you can digest it. When people vomit, the partially digested food leaves a strong disgusting chemical odour that can cause any human to pass out. Be sure to wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth when cleaning up the mess. Spread lots of baking soda to absorb the smell and leave the doors open as long as you can.

By the way, see if you can turn off your interior lights if your car isn't equipped with auto shut off. You wouldn't want to drain your battery.

Well as predicted a drunk Asian girl threw up in my car on Friday. Bitch didn't say anything when it happened and just stumbled out of the car when I dropped her off and then I smelled it. Threw up on the upholstery and down the side of the car as she was probably trying to stick her head out the window.

Luckily when I reported to Uber they told me to go ahead and get the car detailed and charged the rider for the damage and that amount appeared back in my account. Her $10 ride ended up costing her closer to $170 and my car is cleaner than it has been in a long time. Also the car detailing place I went to was walking distance from Flirt Finch so while I was waiting I went in and had an amazing time with Mary Jane. (I'll write a separate review later!

Putting after-market seat covers on the car now as a protective measure for the future.

I have also started Ubering now. So far, its been great. I did have a drunk couple on Saturday night but they didn't puke or anything. Just the smell of the booze from their filthy mouth was disgusting.

Uber drivers have fun jobs for sure!! They get to meet new people sometimes sexy girls too have great conversations and like you said get to explore parts of Toronto and get to know the city better!!! I always flirt with my Uber drivers a little just to make people’s day and cuz I’m naughty hehe
