A man was arrested Tuesday in the death of a 24-year-old Louisiana woman working as a massage therapist, whose body was found in a barn near one of her client’s homes.
Christopher Landry, 25, was arrested on one count of second-degree murder and one count of obstruction of justice after Kayla Ann Denham’s body was found, Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard said in a release.
Denham told her boyfriend she was meeting a client for a 5 a.m. appointment. Denham provided her boyfriend with her client’s Dunn St. address in Denham Springs — which proved integral to the sheriff’s office’s investigation.
Denham’s boyfriend became worried when she didn’t return home, and calls to her cell phone went unanswered.

“Later on the boyfriend didn’t hear from her, he calls her, couldn’t get her, so he knew something wasn’t right. So then he started looking for her,” Ard said.
A neighbor told WAFB that she had seen Denham’s car parked in Landry’s driveway.
Hours later, deputies found her car parked at the end of a gravel path nearby. Her body was found inside a shed after they searched the perimeter of the residence.
Ashley Kellet, who lives across the street from Landy, described the neighborhood as “eerily quiet” in an interview with WAFB.

She also said Landry exhibited suspicious behavior.
“When I saw him in my front yard it wasn’t like he was just walking like a normal person would walk through your yard. He was walking and then he would stop, and then just kind of sit there looking out of the corner of his eye, you know, watching to see if I was going to pull out or not,” she told WAFB.

Kellet said she had also seen Landry pacing his own driveway Monday evening.
Landry was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center. Bond has been set at $175,000.

Landry has no violent crime history.
The sheriff’s office said that its investigation is ongoing, and that it has “a lot of questions” that remain unanswered.
The sheriff’s office is working with the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab and the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office to continue piecing together the case.
Autopsy results show Denham was strangled and died from blunt force injuries to the head.
Denham’s cousin, Michelle Guglielmo Gilliam, said their family is devastated.
“You were a light that shined so bright in this world, and I bonded with you the moment I met you,” she wrote in a Facebook post.
“I will do all I can to help fight for justice for you...Please know we love you so much and our hearts are breaking with loss.”
