PARAGOULD, Ark. (KAIT) – A Paragould massage therapist accused of sexually assaulting multiple victims for years has been sentenced to prison.
Second Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Sonia F. Hagood announced on Wednesday, May 8, a Greene County jury convicted 75-year-old Phillip Brinkley on one count of rape.
According to a news release, Circuit Judge Randy Philhours followed the jury’s recommendation and imposed a 20-year sentence for Brinkley.
Court documents said on Sept. 9, 2022, a female victim told Paragould police she was raped by Brinkley while getting a massage at a local massage parlor.
During a Mirandized interview on Sept. 12, 2022, Brinkley “gave self-incriminating statements” to police.
The release added that after Brinkley’s arrest, several other women came forward and told of similar acts that Brinkley committed against them under similar circumstances within the last decade.
Affidavits show that some of the incidents happened in 2012 and 2020.
“I extend my gratitude to our law enforcement partners, particularly Detective Corporal Tron Beesley and the Paragould Police Department, for their investigation and support during this trial,” Hagood said. “Their dedication to upholding justice for victims of rape and sexual abuse is commendable. Lastly, I want to thank the jurors who attentively listened to heartbreaking testimony and evidence. Cases of this nature are emotionally taxing, and their service is deeply appreciated.”
On Sept. 13, 2022, Greene County District Judge Daniel Stidham charged Brinkley with one count of rape. He was released soon after on a $75,000 bond. Brinkley was arrested again on Sept. 27, 2022.
