Member of class cheating

I just wanted to know what others would do. My girlfriend and I are both in massage school together with 10 other students (the lagest class this school allows) anyway one student, just out of high school, who... ummm.. IMHO... wont make it. before you yell at me for this one, one she is very unperfesional in the classroom, two she just plain seems uninterrested. well anyway she has been cheating on antomy tests. How do I know? well when she is asked even simple questions and cant get even close in review sessions and then gets A's and B's on the quiz...plus she has been overheard asking her "friend" for answers. what should I do? should I tell anyone? normally I wouldent care but I respect massage as a profession and I also respect my school. what do you think?

Are you in a state that has testing requirements for licensing? If so, that will weed her out from practicing legal massage... although, if she's a cheater, she might just set up shop without.

Anyways, in a class that small, unless the teacher is completely oblivious, they likely already know.

IL does require Lic. now.. and we do suspect the teacher knows.. I'm not sure why he hasent said anything come t think of it... unless he thinks she will just quit like I do. I dono?

I think if this person is indeed doing what you suggest that her ethics will eventually show her for what she is. Rest assured that if the instructor knows about this, it will be exposed when it is time. You could pull the instructor aside and tell them your suspisions, but its hard to say the kind of reaction you will get from the instructor, too. Give it time, these things have a way of working themselves out.

I haven't had to deal with this personally but a close friend of mine who went to the same school did. Some guys in her class were cheating. She told her teacher what was goin on. They were kicked out. If it were me, I'd do the same thing, state testing or not. It's an insult to everyone else who's working their butts off. Just be careful how you present this to your teacher. It might be wise to say you're suspicious that they are cheating. Not "I know they're cheating!!!".

If this person somehow makes it through school AND passes your state testing I am sure their clients are gonna get wise to it. This person may be able to do relaxation work but they won't be able to really treat someone with no real knowledge of the body.

I also am in school in Illinois. Our instructor told us at day one, no matter what test or when or what class, if you are caught cheating you are out for good. But I don't know how it would be handled if somebody said that they suspect someone. He would probly just keep a better eye on the student.

I know how it may seem. But...if she has consistently gotten As and Bs, it's a good bet she knows more than you think she does. I have consistently received As in class (my GPA is 3.8 - I received a couple of Bs on late homework and my first hands on test) but I do really bad on 'pop quizes'. There's also a person in my class who is young, has a laid back attitude in class. From appearances, you might think she's not always 'there'. Two things in her favor, she has an awesome touch and a photographic memory.

What I'm saying with all of the above is is if she is indeed cheating, have no doubt that she'll be found out soon enough. Also, although first impressions are often good, they are not always fool proof.

Gaspen , I know what your saying, because I was the kid in high school who did nothing in class, besides maybe read a book and I still did great on my tests. but, there is another girl that she hangs out with that she treats like her puppy dog (you would have to see it :wink: ) and thats the girl she cheats off of. We are almost positive because when the teacher stepped out of the room she asked her "puppy" whats the answer to 1 or 2. if she isent cheating then something is going on thats for sure. Thanks for all the replys but I still dont know if I should say anything or not... hmmm I'll keep ya posted.

Just do what you feel in your heart is right. If she's not cheating then no harm done, if she is, she's got no business being there.

There is an old saying that goes:

"If you mind your own business, you'll be busy all the time"

I know that sounds a little harsh, and I don't necessarily mean for it to be. I am sure it is difficult to put in hours of hard work and study only to watch someone get by on somebody else's hard work. But, as others have said, if she is truly cheating, she will be found out one way or another. Either in school or perhaps by her clients or employers once she is out of school. Regardless, wouldn't it feel nice to not be wrapped up in what other people are doing (yes, I am still working on that one myself 8)

i'm with palpable on this one too. i just wouldn't bother. ignore it the best you can. who really knows what's going on but it's better for you to focus on yourself. if she's cheating, she'll fail at some point or she'll figure "it" [life] out and do things herself.

on a side note, i'm surprised more people haven't mentioned cheating in the replies. people in my class cheated all the time. nothing major but i'd say it happened pretty often. you can only cheat so much before you'll have to prove what you really do know. i was one of those people in class who didn't seem real serious. i goofed around a lot and didn't let-on that i knew as much as i did. i guess mainly because people in my class were boring. many of them were WAY TOO serious. so i guess i felt the need to be a jokester enough for them all! i'm sure i bothered some people in the class but i just couldn't take myself as serious as a lot of them did. btw, i finished school with a 98% and i'd like to think i'm a great therapist. i love my work and the profession-been a therapist for almost 5 years.

There was someone at our school cheating too...a man who would write answers right on his arms and hands (no lie!) well, needless to say, the teacher flat out saw him doing it...kind of felt sorry for the guy , he was from Russian and was having a terrible time understanding everything..kinisiology just did him in... :roll:

I wouldn't bother telling either. She's really only cheating herself, and it will show when she fails the licensing exam.
