Massage Envy is looking to meet increased demand across the region by hiring for 117 positions.
The fast-growing franchise employs about 350 people among the Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Dayton markets, said Theresa Holderread, who owns three locations, two of them in Butler County.
โBetween the (three) Dayton and (nine) Cincinnati area locations, our current hiring need is about 65 massage therapists, 15 estheticians, 35 wellness advisors and 12 assistant managers,โ Holderread told the Journal-News, noting that about 20 positions need to be filled in Butler County alone.
All 12 locations are hiring but have an issue finding applicants, she said.
โBeginning around 2010, we saw a decrease in licensed massage therapist applications coming in,โ Holderread said. โIn our work with local massage therapy schools, we have found enrollment is down nationwide, perpetuating the nationwide shortage in licensed massage therapists.โ
Since opening its first location in Scottsdale, Ariz., in 2002, Massage Envy has performed 100 million services, according to the company. There are now 1,100 locations nationwide employing 23,000 massage therapists.
The first area location opened in Mason in January 2008. Holderread opened locations at the Bridgewater Falls shopping center in Fairfield Twp. in 2008 and Voice of America Centre shopping center in West Chester Twp. in 2011. In 2015, she assumed ownership of an Eastgate location that first opened in 2012.
She employs 81 people โ 25 in Fairfield Twp, 25 in West Chester Twp. and 31 in Eastgate.
The need to hire more staffers, in particular licensed massage therapists, โstems from a growing client demand for massage therapy to help alleviate everyday stress and pain,โ Holderread said.
Each Massage Envy location varies in pay, however, Massage Envyโs full-time therapists and estheticians working 25 hours or more per week at Holderreadโs locations average $36,000 to $40,000 annually, including gratuities, she said.
Managers average between $32,000 to $38,000 annually, with assistant managers averaging $12 to $14 per hour. Wellness advisors average $10 per hour.
Benefits vary by location, but region-wide the company offers similar benefits. Holderreadโs locations offer United Healthcare medical insurance, Fidelity IRA with company matching, paid time off, complimentary professional liability insurance, free continuing education courses, complimentary monthly massages and facials and additional services and retail discounts.
Massage Envy is a great place in which to work โbecause its focused on building an employee brand,โ Holderread said.
โOur success is measured in our dedication to build a career in massage therapy and skin care services,โ she said. โFrom exploring an interest in attending massage or esthetic school to rebuilding a client base after a long break from the industry, we offer an entry point for all levels of therapists.
