SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — Several massage parlors in Springfield were shut down on Friday for failing to abide by the city’s massage establishment ordinance.
The police department, public works Department, and city outreach coordinators worked together on this investigation.
Over the summer, Springfield City Council approved an ordinance requiring massage parlors to register with the city. City leaders cited concerns of human trafficking, including a federal investigation at one location in the city.
In a release, the city said it's focused on ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and addressing community concerns related to these establishments.
WAND has not been given a list to which parlors are closed.
This is a developing story.
