CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) --
Instructor Michael Greene is passionate about massage. Soon he'll be teaching the first batch of students at the National Holistic Institute-- a college of massage therapy based at the Institute of Technology in Clovis.
"What massage can do is help you with managing pain, managing the stress of it, and getting back to the things you enjoy doing. Those quality of life elements."
Greene said they'll be teaching students from a comprehensive approach.
"There's a hands-on component to it, but also understand what you're touching, how that muscle works, and what it's connected to, and strategies to be able to relieve it."
Science will play a role in teaching students and Greene said these days, the career is growing.
"Our graduates work in all areas of the field. Whether that's spa wellness, medical, sports to cruise ships, resorts, all of those different types of things."
NHI will also have a student clinic open to the community to practice the craft in about a month.
"The benefits of the public are they get discounted public massage, and our students get really valuable feedback and experience," said Greene.
The first class will start June second with more to follow. Students will have to complete the 900-hour program to graduate from the program.
The school is still accepting applicants for their evening program.
Instructors said with this education, they look forward to helping more people heal through massage in the Valley.
