New to Aromatherapy and looking for a good school to study

I am pretty new to aromatherapy and would like to start studying again!

I am working full time and would like to find a school (home learning??) that either teaches in the evening or at week ends.
I have gone through different websites, but it is quite complicated as various diplomas are available.
What I am looking for, is a diploma that would allow me to maybe start my own practice one day.

I any of you have been in my situation, I would love to hear from uou and get some advice !

Hi Sophie!

I am new to this site and was just trawling through the messages in this forum when I came across this one. Its a bit late in the day and you may have found something already but here's my advice (for what its worth!!). I trained with the Tisserand Institute which has now ceased offering undergraduate training unfortunately, mostly due to lack of uptake. It is a great shame as it was an excellent course and I believe I received some of the best training available in the UK. However, several of the tutors from my course are now teaching at Neals Yard Remedies. I recently attended a post-graduate pregnancy course there and it was great value, highly informative and thorough. Based on this, I would definitely recommend training with them. Alternatively, you could contact the IFPA (www.ifpaaroma.org) who will give you details of accredited courses which will provide you with adequate training to build a successful practice, obtain full insurance etc. IFPA are striving to attain a uniform standard for aromatherapy training (something which, in my opinion, is much needed) and in order to be a full member, you have to subscribe to completing 36 hours CPD once you are qualified, so the learning continues. Student membership is good value and I think together with the insurance package too was around £50.

Hi Sophie,

I'm just finishinh my training with the Penny Price Academy in Hinckley, Leicestershire. Its an IFPA clinical diploma, and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. Training is available at weekends, with home study. Or you might be able to do what I've done - I've done the distance learning course, and then converted by doing a 5 day practical course, and the first aid, business and exam module.

It might not suit you, but it's worth a look. Any any questions, contact them - they're very helpful.
