Here is the latest word on the closing of downtown.
The target is not just the strip bars. It is the whole Mariscal St. from top to 16 de Sept. The idea is to demolish both sides of the street and create a tourist zone, you know, shops and shit like that.
What is up in the air is the bars on Santos de Gollado, Rancho Grande, Queens Place and Virginias bar. Further down S de G is the brothel, Panama Club and the out of the way brothels, Casa Colorada and Pink Ladies.
The local papers give me the impression that they will be shut down as well because they are using prostitution as a target as part of the clean up.
I think what it boils down to is plain old capitalism. But at least (what I am told) the property owners will be paid for their properties. Not like the revitalization plan for downtown El Paso where developers are so greedy they want to steal properties for their benifit by using eminit domain.
Now thats half the plan. Whats the other half? Where are we going to have fun? When and where will they build the zona? Mps are great but I like the strip bars as well and the strip clubs outside downtown are far apart and the chicas are expensive.
I will be keeping my eyes an ears open for any new developments.
