Torn through: A passenger captured the damage on the left wing of the Airbus A380 after it landed at Singapore's Changi Airport

The superjumbo was carrying 459 passengers and crew. Quantas has now grounded all six of its A380 airliners while safety checks are carried out





Passenger Lars Sandberg, a DJ from Glasgow, said he was 'just happy to be alive' after the plane landed safely back at Singapore airport.

'When we got off and saw the engine itself and the back casing burnt off, that was pretty scary.


'It was a nerve-wracking experience and I feel a little bit shaken up. I'm just happy to be alive and safe in the terminal building,' he said.

Matt Hewitt from Cheshire, said some people on board had seen bits of a wing 'breaking up' with 'parts sticking up and wires hanging out'

Then the passengers are put on a replacement 747 and it takes off and also suffers an engine failure and has to turn back as well. :???:

SECOND Qantas plane's engine 'explodes' as screaming passengers are told to adopt the crash position

Passengers screamed and air crew shouted for them to adopt the crash position when a second Qantas jet was hit with engine trouble after leaving Singapore airport today.

The 747 jumbo ran into trouble 20 minutes after take-off on its way to Sydney when passengers heard a loud bang and saw flames or sparks coming from an engine.

QF6 immediately returned to Singapore airport and made a safe landing.


It is believed several of the passengers were from the Qantas superjet that had made a dramatic landing in Singapore the day before.

One passenger told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that the flight crew had shouted for them to adopt the crash position and screams could be heard among the passengers.


The passenger said the cabin crew yelled 'crisis!' and ordered everyone to be on their seats as the aircraft prepared to return to Changi airport.

'Around 20 minutes into the flight we heard a loud bang and the pilot asked the passengers to put our heads into the brace position,' said passenger Ranjan Sivagnanasundaram.


'It was a very big shock to us, especially after what happened yesterday.'

Swedish tourist Lisa Ogden said it had been 'a pretty scary'experience.

'An engine on the wing exploded. It looked like fireworks - a pretty big one.
'The plane jumped a bit and the cabin crew were yelling "crisis" and they told everyone to sit down.


'Some were screaming and one or two got up It felt like for ever, but it was just one minute, then the fire was out.'

Qantas said the aircraft had experienced 'an issue' with one of its engines and had landed safely a short time later without incident.

Although the airline said the decision to return to Singapore was precautionary, passengers indicated the problem was more serious

Yes, I was thinking that as well. You survive the first incident and they send a new plane and ground the first one. Then you take off in the new plane the next day and its engine bursts into flames as well, and you're sitting in your seat thinking "the engine is one fire and there are thousands of litres of jet fuel in the wing tanks next to the engine that is on fire, and I'm thousands of feet up in the air, and the whole plane could burst into a giant fireball at any moment like TWA 800...and the crew are running about yelling "CRISIS!" :shockgreat way to calm passengers) and you think 'why did I get on this plane today after narrowly escaping death yesterday?':angel:

If I was on both planes I think I'd be looking for sea passage home on a ship about now...
