Renting an apartment in TJ - bad idea ?

No I was not refering to Jean Luc, but to someone else. Jean Luc did live in Playas though.

I have 7 years in Tijuana. I have not lived in every part, and I have never lived in what I would call a dangerous place. My favorites were La Colina de Aqu Caliente(on the mountanin behind the race track) and Zona Rio. I have a friend that lives in Chaputepec(or something close to that) and it is really nice.

Now I never had problems with people robbing me, but my residence was a full time residence. I found my neighbors to be very supportive for the most part. However if it becomes common knowledge that a place is vacant 5 days a week, I think it would become a target regardless of who was living there.

I have two other aquaintences who had or have places here, and frequently brought chicas back to their places. They were both robbed often. Both like the "walker" type chicas though and I would say that those chicas would be the most likely to rob anyone.

The guy I wrote about was in a crazy relationship with a HK puta and she had keys to his place. Now mind you he called her his "girlfriend" but did not have sex with her once in their more than one year relationship...yet he gave her an allowance and keys to the place and she had lesbian lovers over regulary. I had told him repeatedly what was going to happen and he just brushed it off.


He reminds me of Chevy Chase in Las Vegas Vacation...you know when he goes to the Black Jack dealer and asks to be punched in the nose.

The safety issue that I was talking about was that when the neighbors find out that there is a gringo living around the corner, as Sampson pointed out, they might try to rob you. Maybe TJ is the last place for a foreigner to call "my home."

Your not talking about Jean Luc, owner of another escort agency are you Sampson? It's been my experience when things get that bad between the 'lovers' that it usually takes two to tango before all that hate develops. I don't know if Sampson is talking about Jean Luc, but a similar thing happened to him, but I remember from his writings he demanded his hooker girl friend get out of the business, and it seemed like he wanted to put her lazy daughter to work as an escort, and got on her for being lazy and not working, even going so far as locking the TV so it would not work, pissing her off, and befriending a criminal pimp like guy who was fuckng his hooker girlfriend and maybe the daughter too? Then in the end they all stole from him.

You hang out with people like this and things like that will happen to you. But I don't see the problem hanging out with your favorite bar girl at your apartment saving money on hotels expenses.

The only thing I can say Mike Dude look at your expenses and if you are going to TJ every week then maybe having an apartment would be cheaper?
I do agree with the other guys that you may have to pay more then $200 dollars, and get a more secure apartment and get it barely furnished with only the basics, and maybe a cheaper older TV that even when working are worth only $5 dollars as people are switching to thin flat screen TVs.

Here is the problem I see, and I love TJ. For $200 you won't get a nice gated place, and if people know you are not around, your home will probably get broken into. Also if you are taking chicas there, and they realize you are not there daily then you risk the possibility of her working a "sweetheart" deal to rob you. There has been a couple of bad situations in the last year with guys that bring chicas back to their homes often. One guy was killed, and another had everything robbed from him....and then he got threatening messages that if he returned he would be arrested. The chica told him she put porn on his computer and gave it to the police and there was a warrant for his arrest.

Now I doubt she did all of that, but she has scared him to the point he doesn't even post anymore. And to make matters worse, he had a nice place in Las Playas.

400 - 600 is definitely out of my budget range. I was thinking more like a weekend getaway place, not a place to live. I think safety could be another issue. TJ is not a resort place where a bunch of foreigners live(or is it?). I am not sure if mixing and living with local Mexicans in TJ could pose some safety problems.

In aug-sept in 07 I went Apartment hunting in tj I'll look for the paper work with the address and post them hear for you mikedude.{If I still have the paperwork.}The decent looking apartments where asking for 400 to 600$ a month.{They were gated had, privte gorge,some had security guards{that can be a good are bad thing.}, some came with reforgerators some didnt.Not sure about microwaves{don't rember exactly}.That was 5 months ago so I don't rember all the details.

You have take in count the boarder wait and what time you have to leave your home to go to work.{be it driving are walking}If you don't bring your car over where are going to leave it?

There alot you have to take in count for.{mail,cable,internet,phone and the nerast atm so you can have money,I know mongers can prombly come up with more to add and correct me.}

Out of principle I will not pay bar fines in TJ. If you want to take a chica to your room you are going to have to pay a bar fine. You will have to drive in your own car or pay cab fare. If you drive in your own car in the Zona expect to monentarily detained ........ by the Police. If you want to pay $200 per month, I have a cardboard box I can rent you. My buen amigo Sir Speedy lived with a girl in TJ and he was pay quite a bit more than $200 and his places did not have any heat and intermitten hot water. The only economic advaneforum.xxxe I can see about having an apartment in TJ is that you can get into the movies for less than $5.

Why let them know where you are going to be. Security (if there is such a thing?) Pay the hotel bill and don't have a known pattern.

With frequent trips I make to TJ and the money spent on motels for overnight stay, I was pondering if renting an apartment in TJ could be more cost effective. Local guys tell me that I can get a decent 1 bedroom for around $200 a month which sounds like a bargain compared to the rates in the US. Any monger already doing this ? How's the experience like ? As with everything, I am sure there are cons and pros. Anyone care to elaborate on this ? Thanks in advance.
