I live in costa rica, and after reading a few reviews about the pirate club here, and on another site, i thought I would stop by for the first time in a few years.
I must say, I was very impressed with some aspects of the place.
The layout etc, is the same as it has been before, but it is very nice. All wood, made to look somewhat like a pirate ship in parts (hence the name obviously). All the washrooms are clean and have soap and paper towels. (rare in cr) Drinks are fairly priced, service is good, and yes the bartender is hot. Nice flat screen tvs placed throughout the bar in good vantage points.
The rooms where you take the girls are very nice, among the best I have seen in san jose in terms of massage parlors. It costs 25k colones for an hour, or 100 dollars for an hour in the vip room (which has a stripper pole, porn on a flat screen tv, etc etc). Prices are for girl and room. Each room has its own shower which is great. The beds are also of decent quality.
In terms of how the girls interact with you, I found this to be excellent. The girls generally walk around the bar, and will approach you and ask you how you are etc. They will offer you a tour if you haven't seen the place where they'll show you the rooms and explain the prices etc. For me personally, i found the interaction to be at just the right level. eg: friendly, but not pushy. If you didn't want to talk to the girl anymore, they would go off, and would not bother you, but at the same time they were approachable.
When i was there, there was a fair number of people in the bar, and some guys were getting little lap dances and the like. (clothed). There was a mix of both ticos and gringos there, which was good to see, as I think it means business will be good.
I would have to commend management here, as I believe they have done an excellent job on this level of interaction. I would have to say, it is exactly in the sweet spot.
In terms of the girls, I was a little disappointed here (but i am quite picky). There was one girl there, that I would say would easily get 100 dollars at will in the Rey (and she was enthusiastic and happy in the bar, unfortunately for me, she was occupied). Another girl I would rate as someone you would find in Idem, perhaps a 7 or so. Most of the other girls, at least for me, I would rate typical cr massage parlor girl level, nothing special. I would say though, that a lot of the guys there seemed to be having a good time with the girls, so opinion on the girls may vary. (For instance, I have been to the HLH before and I would have had the same opinion of the girls there, very few I liked). I was in the main bar area for about 45 minutes, so i believe I did see most of the girls that were working that night (thursday). There were perhaps 10-12 girls I would estimate.
The girl I took upstairs was very disappointing, but then again, she said she was leaving this business for good and going back to Nicaragua in 3 days, so there was really no need for her to please (oops, my radar was off on that one, and yes i found that out in the room not the bar, she was very friendly in the bar). I look at this more as a YMMV type of situation than anything wrong with the bar or management itself.
If the bar remains as popular as it was last night, I am hoping that the quality of the girls there will continue to rise (as business will be good for them, and as typically happens more girls will gravitate towards the bar).
I would return personally (yes that one girl was good enough to make me want to return to see her), and I would recommend the bar for others to check out.
