thank you mikemann for the update, much appreciated. if you have a chance, please check out 920 changan lu near the railway station, that was mentioned in the thread before. I shall be in shanghai later october so I am doing my due diligence.

What a preconception, man. You think all business in those sauna venues
are from non-chinese? Well, go to one and take a head count. You'll be suprised how many locals go to these places.

As for the list, it is quite dated. The following four have gone down hill for a long time:

1st Alagong 新 淮 海 (现名阿拉宫)
4th: SYQ (舒 怡 泉)
7th: Shijiabao (士 嘉 堡)
9th: Tongrengyuan (同 仁 苑)
They are still there but the all have drawbacks in a way or another(if not all ).
Alagong cost you 600RMB per session, has some cuties, but the services there are really awful. Girls tend to finish off as fast as they can and no GFE whatsoever.

SYQ is also 600RMB. Really unacceptable selection there, I was there last week just want to try out my luck and ended up paying 128 for the shower and food as I can't even find an 5.

Shijiabao and Tongrengyuan was the best choices back in 2004 but they've lost a huge amount of good girls and now they are just barely in business. Shijiabao droped the price from 650 to 600 and Tongrengyuan from 600 to 530 just to attract customers.

2nd: Jieyuan (吉 原)
Still a great place to go, 760 per session with body scrub. Great girls and services. The only bad thing is the crowd. You might need to wait for 1 hour or 2 to get your turn.

3rd: Qiuzhi (秋 子), 5th: Quanyong (泉 涌 ), 8th: Chunzhi (春 子) are budget choices. All are lower than 400/session. Qiuzhi and Chunzhi are run by the same boss. The commonness in these three are "run-down place with a not bad girl selection".

6th: Chihuiquan (智 慧 泉), probably the most expensive sauna in Shanghai with almost 1000RMB per session. Great selection of girls but no guarantee of good service as pretty girls tend to give out bad services.

10th: Qiancao Spring (浅草温泉), never been there but seems to be legit sauna. Just dunno anything about it.

Just for the record, I am a local who make much more than 2000/month but much less than 2000/day.

the locals generally dont visit these saunas for our reasons.

those that can afford this hobby will have a second wife (er ni) first.

and the rest, like mentioned above, simply can not afford this hobby. a typical college graduate only makes about rmb 2000 per month (this is what most of us here make per day if not more). not to mention cost of living in shanghai isnt exactly cheap by china standards.

great job River, we can sample more places now. I am a bit suspicious as to the validity of the survey. At an average price of 600RMB a visit, I doubted that there are so many chinese who can afford the pleasure. the average middle income is 100 RMB a day. that throws these number of votes into question. do you have any insight into this?

this information I got from a chinese website. I believe the votes are most from chinese people. I am very surprised why yuping is not in the list (so do shanghai sauna)

I have been there for top first 4 places and 6th. but never tried others. My favor is the 2nd one. Thier soupland service is #1 in SH in my opinoin. This place havs been attacked several tiems by police but still survive well there. which I think should have some strong backgroud in the city.

the 3rd and 5th in lower price compare to others.

I hope someone here know others can post details.
