In sunny California, the change of seasons is in the air. The days are still sunny, but not the easy, relaxing warmth of summer, and early fall, but cool with a pronounced chill in the fresh, nippy air. And the clear starry nights bring with them temperatures near freezing.
As the days grow short, and the time for my departure to LOS is now within sight, I suddenly find my thoughts turning to the land of smiles more each day. Here I sit, sipping spoonfuls of split pea soup, homemade and hot off the stove. Thanksgiving has come and gone and the Christmas season begins to fill people's minds as the media campaign to sell more junk intensifies.
I have a wee bit of the flu which came upon me this morning, so a little while ago, I was lying in bed feeling dragged out and headachy. As there I lay, my mind drifting in and out of conscousness, wlecome thoughts of LOS crept into my head, and a smile visted my face. Here's what brought it to me.....
When I was in Ko Samui, last spring, the bars there closed each night on the main strip at 1:00 AM. So, after a night of drinking, eating, and general carousing, my teerak and I would head back to the bungalow. Arriving, we would plop ourselves down on the bed. Not that we had any choice in the matter, because the bungalow was not much bigger than the bed and aside from the nightstand there was no other furniture in the room.
As we lay there side by side, resting comfortably in the heat of the April night, the fan spinning above us, the sounds of the waves lapping the beach next to the bungalow could be heard over the distant thudding of the bass speakers at a disco down the road a bit. I was at once relaxed and content, while, at the same time, lulled and stimulated by the softness of her skin, the gentleness of her touch, and the fragrance of her supple young body. I could feel the energy from her body entering mine as our two forms pressed together. And I would wait for her energy to begin to bubble over, as invariably it would. And that was when I would hear her whispering to me. At first just a barely audible whisper, but soon growing to a low, sexy, constant cooing of her pretty voice. These were the words that she spoke to me, as she cajoled me, "Bai Buddy, mai? Bai Buddy, mai? Yaak bai buddy, mai?"
Buddy Beer Bar is the upscale restaurant/pool hall/bar not far from the beach bungalows on the road to Chaweng. They pay enough money for the license to stay open after the other bars closed. It is the place to be for anybody who's anybody in LaMai after the bars closed. It stands alone with a big parking lot. Very nice, very classy place with high-pitched cathedral ceilings. Large, spacious, good food, good service and never crowded. All the BGs there were just beaming with pride that their guy was taking them to the top spot, and the priciest bar in town. The lot was packed with motabikes of all the Thais there, too, and at the disco on the other side of the lot. It's the place to be for the young Thai guys with their dates, as well.
At first I would pretend I was sleeping, but she was persistent. Then I would say what, what did you say? It was a game, because she knew if she coaxed me well enough, I was sure to give in. Finally, her voice would break into giggles of excitement, and I could not put off agreeing any longer. "Ok, rao bai, rao bai Buddy duay gan diownee, " I would say and we would both break into peals of laughter, her so excited to go, and me, so amused by her simple joy and excitement over such a little thing!
Not much of a story, this. But more than enough to put a warm smile on my face this chilly night, as thoughts turn to the tropical splendor of LOS and my trip ahead. And I know that when I close my eyes tonight, and wait for slumber to overtake me, lovely Aon will be there, whispering, cooing, coaxing, giggling, and escorting me off to dreams of pleasure, just as I escorted her each night to Buddy Bar on those hot summery nights last spring. I can hear her now, "Bai Buddy, mai? Bai Buddy?...."
Does anyone else have a simple memory that they would like to share with us?
