Carlos Correa, who was so happy to be healthy and playing at a high level after a year and a half of injury frustrations, has a broken rib.
And the rib was broken during a massage.
What?
"I'm extremely disappointed about not being on the field with my teammates. I sustained the rib fracture during a massage at my home on Tuesday. To sustain an injury in such an unusual way makes it even more frustrating. However, I will work hard to get back on the field as quickly as possible to help our team achieve our goal of winning another championship."
OK, this goes on the list of unusual baseball-make-that-non-baseball injuries. But it is nowhere near the worst, or best.
It isn't even the most unusual Astros injury.
Nolan Ryan missed a start in 1985 after he was bitten on the hand when he reached into a dog pen.
I know that's not particularly unusual, however, he wasn't bitten by a dog. He suffered a bite from one of the three coyotes that were kept in the pen.
Moises Alou tore ligaments in his knee when he fell off a treadmill.
In 2008 spring training, Hunter Pence was having fun in a hot tub with friends when he fell through a sliding glass door. Two years later, Geoff Blum โ now the Astros' TV analyst โ popped his elbow putting on his shirt after a game. And in 1994, Astros radio analyst Steve Sparks injured his shoulder ripping a phone book in half while with the Brewers.
Surely you have heard many others. From Greg Minton, who drove a nail in his hand while trying to shoe a horse, to Bob Stanley, who almost lost his career when he fell down the stairs and landed on a glass bottle that was in the trash bag he was taking out, to Ruben Sierra's sprained ankle sustained while chasing his daughter on a mall escalator.
There was the time David Price hurt his neck drying it with a towel.
Jeremy Affeldt was out for the end of the 2011 season after he almost cut off his pinkie finger separating frozen hamburgers.
Joe Oliver of the Reds cut himself while emptying the dishwasher.
Joel Zumaya missed several games of the 2006 ALCS because of a sore wrist that he suffered because he played too much "Guitar Hero." Seriously.
Juan Gonzalez, Marc Valdes, Russ Springer, Goose Gossage, Kevin Pillar and Sammy Sosa were all shut down due to hard sneezes.
Apparently Glenallen Hill once had a nightmare about spiders, and while trying to get away from them, he crashed into a wall, and ended up on the disabled list.
David Wells kicked a bar stool, fell down and cut his left hand and right wrist at the same time with a glass that he was holding. He swore that was the truth.
He also said he wasn't playing around with a friend, contradicting those reports by saying the friend slapped him on the back of the neck just before the accident occurred.
"I was at my counter, and I just turned around and said, 'Knock it off,' took two steps and the bar stool was right there and I kicked it," Wells said, according to ESPN.com. "Trust me, it didn't feel too good. When I kicked it, I tripped. I was wearing flip-flops. I lost my balance and went right over. I did a header over the bar stool.
"I wasn't running, I wasn't play-housing."
Correa's injury isn't all that crazy now, is it?
