This guy I met in a chat room wants my phone number?

I've been talking to this guy for more than six months now and hes really gentle at heart, yes I know I can't really tell if he is because he's on the internet out to kill me, yadda yadda. But recently he's been asking for my number so we can text each other, which I am in slight reluctance to do because, well, he could be out to get me. I know he's older than me, but doesn't seem technilogically savy enough to track me down. So my question is, could I give him my number with out fear, or do I need to buy a cheap track phone so I can text him?

Its the honest ones you ought to watch out for, all internet stalkers act gentle and nice online then slowly gets your personal info, then asks for address, phone number and then ask to meet you irl, thats when he would drug you and rape you and perhaps kill you, then decapitating your limbs and head corroding them in an bathtub full of acid and dumping the torso into an lake weighted with bricks
