Did man actually land on the moon in 69?

I saw a doc some time ago saying that it was all a set up and the televised event was actually filmed in a studio. If i can recall something to do with the shadows that were being cast, and not by the sun but artificial lighting.
Also the fact that if it did occur then the astonaughts would have died from radiation poisoning from the sun( considering it was 69 and the space suits were not as good as today)
If they did why have they never been back to the moon and more often,69 now 08 should have a space station on there by now ??

Of course they did.

There are sites that debunk all the conspiracy theories with even table top experiments. (I can look for them if you want).

I believe NASA sent a probe that flew over and took photos showing even some of the Apollo equipment left behind.

It is perhaps humankind's greatest technological achievement to date.

A lot of those technolgies were used to get man to the moon.

I read somewhere that putting man on another planet was like shooting a gun in New York, then firing another gun in LA with a smaller bullet, trying to hit the NY Bullet and do it all blindfolded.

Wireless technology is just radio and that's been around for decades.
Air Travel: these days it is a major contributor to air pollution and for the most part, totally useless and VERY inefficient. Do you realize that 99% of the people flying don't have to fly? And that 60% of the fuel burned is used just the carry the fuel?

As for the rest, they are great discoveries but the key to the Moon Landing is it was an achievement, not an invention. Man didn't invent the moon landing, he achieved it.

I'd equate this to someone conquering K2 or Everest.

I think the biggest technological breakthroughs have come in medicine. By extending the lifespan of people, and the quality of life during that lifespan, you allow them to work on all of the other breakthroughs that have come along.

As for consipiracy theories...people are willing to give the government credit to pull of unbelievable tricks, then tell us that they are too incompitent to tie their own shoe laces. Make up your minds.

There are various arguments for and against the science of medicine.

For eg:
All these people living longer just overpopulates the planet and consumer more goods and cause more waste.

There are some people more prone to diseases than others (some families are rife with cancer for eg). By "curing" or extending the life of those who are prone to diseases, that just gives them time to procreate thereby continuing the existance of that genetic trait that makes people prone to said disease.

We're effectively bypassing evolution by doing this.

Another example is people with addictive personalities. They tend to become addicted to drugs or alcohol, they have kids, kids see that doing drugs is ok, they do drugs. It's a vicious circle. Kind of like ethiopia: families there have 4 kids because they know 3 most likely will die of starvation. But the reason the 3 die of starvation is because there is only enough food for 1 kid.......

I've heard some of the same arguments, I think I've even seen that guy talk before. The thing is, to believe him, you also have to believe that all of the 300,000 people who worked on the project were all in on it, too. 40 years later, you'd think that at least a few of them would come forward with real, factual evidence to prove their claims, no?

The counterpoint to these conspiracy theories? All those cases where the government proved itself completely incompetent in covering up other indescretions. Watergate, Iran-Contra, Plame-gate... and who can forget Monica Lewinski?

Seriously now, if a government can't even cover up a blowjob, how can we expect them to cover up a fake moon landing for over 40 years? :neutral:

On July 20, 1969 Neil Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the moon. At that exact time a younger Lagavulin, like millions of others, was glued to a black and white television screen. Every word, of every description, uttered by Walter Cronkite was felt in the heart as much as the mind. We had not an event to watch but the possibility of a future to experience.

It was the words of the late President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, spoken in an address to congress on May 25,1961, coming to life from his grave.

“First, I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth. No single space project in this period will be more impressive to mankind, or more important for the long-range exploration of space; and none will be so difficult or expensive to accomplish.”

Yes we landed on the moon, but the true hoax is what happened after, the hoax was when discovery and innovation were supplanted by the need to be politically safe. The hoax was in electing leaders based on image rather than substance. A leader cannot play it safe, by definition they must be in the vanguard, they must lead.

The end of manned exploration was the end of development of the desire to explore and achieve. We became willing to settle for contentment rather than pushing for discovery.

The hoax is that we, the average person, no longer look’s up,to see the heavens and dream of the impossible.


Some asides:

Cable TV did not exist in 1969 and the signal was accomplished at no charge via a device called “rabbit ears”, it was a free wireless service, our wallets were not depleted for the privilege of watching situation comedy.

President Kennedy’s speech is a masterful bit of craftsmanship and oratory, the full text is a worthwhile read. Why can we no longer be inspired by those that are supposed to be our leaders?

The presence of President Kennedy’s penis in any particular vagina or other orifice was dwarfed by his actions on the issues of the day, everyone heard the rumors and no one cared. Far more important was a missile crisis with Cuba, eminent nuclear war, a battle for civil rights, and a vision to open the heavens. Perhaps if latter day politicians drove to inspire, drove to lead, and drove with a vision that came from their heart rather than polling data, the public would be distracted from the salacious just long enough to become inspired and once again seek discovery.

As a result of the presence of men on the moon, and exploration of the lunar surface, new scientific data was garnered that confirmed or changed existing theories. If a studio production can accomplish that, then we must immediately send Stephen Hawking to Hollywood so that Stephen Spielberg and Keanu Reeves can provide him with solid evidence about the origin of time and a unified theory. On a personal note, I have issues with string theory as it is currently presented, so Mr. Reeves ability to provide exact data (with or without nudity) will be invaluable.

There are laser reflectors that were placed on the surface of the moon by the Apollo missions that are still in use today.

I'm wondering if he wrote his own speeches? I'm guessing he did... but that's just a guess. His inaugural address; the "Ask not what you can do...." Speech was inspiring. (Edit: After some research I have discovered Ted Sorenson was his speech writer, with a fair amount of input from Kennedy himself, and there were frequent "ad libs")

I believe I read somewhere that Reagan wrote most if not all his own speeches. He was another "inspiring" politician. Like him or hate him, he DID inspire the American people. And he wasn't afraid to speak his mind or make a decision either. The day he said FUCK YOU" to the air traffic controllers was true brilliance IMHO. (Edit: After some research I have discovered that although Reagan did hand write pages and pages of his own words, these were then handed off to be "polished" by Peggy Noonan.)

I think this might be a big reason why most politicians just don't inspire the way some have in the past. They are just handed a speech that was skillfully written by a team of writers that was designed not to offend anyone and put forth some lame points here and there. They fail BIGTIME in the inspiration department!

Politicians (in North America) these days lack any substance what-so-ever. But that is our own fault... and we have become desensitized by years and years of mediocrity. They all have the same agenda, and are mere mouth pieces for the party they supposedly represent. Even the parties themselves have become essentially the same. Sure they may be opposed on some issues, but they are have the same electoral platform... elect me, because the other guy is an idiot!

There are a lot of amateur astronomers on earth and of course in 1969 foreign governments (many enemies of the USA) had access to large arrays also.

Much to my surprise, even today the Hubble cant 'see' the tiny artifacts of the lunar landings.:neutral:

HOWEVER, all the large and smaller telescopes on Earth could have tracked the missions for a loooong way after launch and spotted the return flights when still a looooong way from Earth.

And more significant, a FLAME is visible at great distances in the dark.

If the astronauts didnt go anywhere, and I didnt come back from anywhere, there are hell of a lot of folks who would have cried foul.

I mirror CG's political comments with one exception: Obama. He is one politician who seemed to generate the desire to be a leader as opposed to a politician.

The thing about politics now is that most are more interested in getting elected, than leading. They are more concerned with getting and keeping the "job" as opposed to doing the "job" and most forgot what a government is: a representation of the people. When people like Bush get in and they blatantly have their own agenda (or their family's) it is time to overhaul the political system.

As for Reagan, I'd suggest you dig a little deeper, if you want to know the starting point for the current economic mess in the US, look at what HE did during his seat in power, he was the one who started the ball rolling......
