Windows in rooms in Burnaby MPs to look through

Burnaby MPs have windows to look through so that anyone walking down the hall can peer into the room you're in and see you.

What is the reason for this? Any other suburbs with this undesirable feature?

Someone said this is actually illegal.

I was told it was a Burnaby bylaw so the management could walk by and make sure there were no illegal activities going on.

A few years ago I was at Atlantis in Burnaby. I had just got dressed and I was in the room by myself. Atlantis used to hang a towel over the window. The police came in, they opened the door, they gave the little wormy guy that answers the door shit for covering the window. They didn't say anything to me except to ask me the name of my masseuse, which I told them. They didn't even ask my name as there is nothing illegal about sitting in a room with all your clothes on tying your shoe.

Even the Fox Den has windows in the doors - the girls just cover them with robes. I believe it is in case of police presence.

When the big sting went down last year at many places around town, the city bylaws were amended to have window uncovered. Dunno the other particulars.

Yup. Rainbow massage on Kingsway and Royal Oak have the same open windows and believe it or not they dont even cover the windows. When I was there someone rang the bell from the back and I saw the person walk by... They should at least cover it with a robe like the den...

When I used to frequent Lucky Spa in San Francisco, the windows were used by Mamasan to check up on the girls and the action. On occasion a large guy with no neck who I lovingly named "Otho" would come by and check when my SP was making too much noise.

Keeping common bawdy-house

210. (1) Every one who keeps a common bawdy-house is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years.

Landlord, inmate, etc.

(2) Every one who
(a) is an inmate of a common bawdy-house,

(b) is found, without lawful excuse, in a common bawdy-house, or

(c) as owner, landlord, lessor, tenant, occupier, agent or otherwise having charge or control of any place, knowingly permits the place or any part thereof to be let or used for the purposes of a common bawdy-house,

is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction.

And what bothers me the most about this stupid law is that an mp could be such a safer, more comfortable alternative to a lot of sps and SW's who don't have incall locations for whatever reason. Why shouldn't they be able to pay a small fee to have a safe place to work out of, with people around, showers, parking, etc. It just baffles me that this isn't okay, but it is okay to go for a car ride with a guy, go to an outcall to some unknown place or rent a hotel room all by herself.

I totally agree with you there FO. The new prostitution laws that were introduced in the CCC in 1985 all appear as if they were designed to make it more dangerous for SPs and SWs. Communicating for the purposes of prostitution section 213 forces many of the SWs to ply their trade in dark, often isolated industrial zones making them targets for pooners like the pig farmer.

The good news is that section 210 is rarely enforced until a place becomes a nuisance and they have several serious complaints. Even then it's hard to prove in court and the police just don't have the budgets to enforce this remote statute with elaborate stings and stakeouts.

The laws do indeed need to be changed if we are going to make this a safer profession. Prostitution is not going to go away and Parliament needs to realize this and move forward into the 21st century. However, with the popularity of the Conservatives these days it doesn't look like change will happen anytime soon. So stay safe girls!

What bothers me the most is that there is no public determination that a place is a bawdy house so that the public can be warned prior to entry. It seems to be up to the arresting officer as to whether or not a place is a bawdy house. Correct me, Panther, if this is not the case.




But the bad news is that 210(2)(B) nails you IF you are there during that rare enforcement. Seems that a large neon sign should be posted outside: "Caution. This establishment has been determined to be a Bawdy House. It is illegal to be found within by LE. The odds are with you because the law is rarely enforced, but you are totally screwed when it is enforced."

The lack of such a sign should be a complete defense to any charges.

This is why I avoid these places. I dont think my nor most employers would take kindly knowing their employee(s) got busted in a "bawdy" house.

What determines that it is a bawdy house is at least one person selling sex out of an establishment. They're not about to advertise with a neon sign that they sell sex, for most pooners know this fact from reading this board and word of mouth. I guess so do the police. And Canadian police are given tremendous amounts of discretion on which cases to pursue and which ones they won't and the ambiguous and often grey wording of the Criminal Code appears to serve that.

If they decide to bust the place and you're inside, I guess just like everything else in life that is prohibited and you're caught, you're shit out of luck. Why should they have a sign warning you, as if you go to that establishment or places like it, for any other reason BUT to get laid. I think most people know how to distinguish between legit health and wellness establishments and massage parlours that sell sex and this should be enough of a warning. When police conduct raids, unless they catch you with your cock up a girl's ass, they usually depend on confessions made voluntarily. So if you are caught, ID yourself but don't say anything else. Usually Crown council in most urban centres with more pressing cases will not prosecute such a minor and remote offence, especially one presented with very little evidence.
