Can you treat her or him as a friend?

Aside from legit bad blood, or because you just went separate ways for whatever reason, doesn't being unable to interact with an ex just as a friend suggest you have difficulty seeing someone as a person not a sexual object? That doesn't seem the kind of persoanlity trait to trumpet as cool, as some appear to do.
That was Brad's holier than thou moment for the day. Phew, that was exhausting.

^^^^ well, I think in my case it depends on what or who you consider a friend. I have maybe 3 friends right now. These people I would have no problem giving my PIN number to, the keys to my house, the keys to my truck, or leave 20K in cash in their hands.

Now mere acquaintances? I have a lot more of those but don't consider them friends.....and frankly, bad blood or a nasty breakup is enough for me not to want to see an ex and it has nothing to do with being able to see them as something other than a sex object.

Now, if we said we couldn't be friends with a woman because of the sex object thing, then maybe you have a point but like in the movie "when harry met sally", guys and females often have difficulty being friends because of the sex thing.
