I think the big lesson here is the police are truly only held accountable when there is overwhelming video evidence. Whenever you deal with cops or see them in action record them, especially if you are poor or a minority. Nobody likes to be scrutinized, but unchecked power leads to corruption and abuse. I don't know that I'd go so far as to say exonerated. It appeared to me that a case could be made for depraved indifference, maybe. Murder? I don't see it.

But without meaning to insult Useful Idiot, the (I'm sure) unintended irony of his claim that the lesson we take from this is to trust video evidence...is just breathtaking. The prosecution chose not to show most of the video evidence in the Floyd case. If you watch it all, I don't see how the prosecution's case retains the same force .

The one lesson we should be taking away is precisely the opposite. Do NOT trust video evidence. Like all evidence it has to be considered in full context. Look at the 13 year old who was just shot in Chicago recently. I've watched that horrendous video multiple times now and in most cases mainstream media outlets presented an edited version cutting out the part immediately before he's shot when the gun is in his hand. What about the maga hat wearing Covington kid? Remember the initial video and story that went with it? That certainly looked a lot different once the rest of the video surfaced didn't it? What about the recent 60 minute hatchet job on DeSantis...did the video presented by 60 Minutes give you a good understanding of what transpired in that situation? Video from the 16 year old knife-wielding girl that was recently shot has been similarly hacked.

I don't care what your politics are, if you are good with a media that does this, then you are a not chasing truth, but are just supporting a narrative. It isn't journalism, it's as full and complete a betrayal of journalism as could be imagined.

This was political to begin with. The attorney general would not release the body cam footage. The only reason we go to see it was a UK media outlet leaked it. I assume it was withheld for reasons like Floyd was saying “I can’t breathe” well before he was even put in the car.

You’re right...the media is the problem. I personally can’t see anything changing as long as the news is profit driven. They love conflict and controversy, and have said so themselves.

I just don’t understand how people blindly listen and believe everything that’s said. You listed some good examples, but here’s another. It’s been confirmed the cop at the Capitol died of 2 strokes but the media was saying he got killed for months.

So conflating different stories is evidence....ie bringing the Chicago shooting and the Desantis 60 min interview into the Floyd case is evidence that the Floyd video is not what we saw with our own eyes. This is why you were not asked to be part of the Chauvin defense team...maybe you will be on Bitchute or comedy channel .

Okay, I will agree context is important. Whatever you feel about the knee position at no point did Chauvin concern himself with Floyd’s well being. He and the other cops had a duty of care. Once Floyd was unconscious two of the cops could have controlled him while the third or a paramedic could have checked on his well being. As for the 13 year old, I have not seen any video yet so I will suspend judgment. The cop may have in fear of his life, or he may have been resolved to shoot once the chase was on. It needs a deep look.

What fucking trial were you watching. The video evidence didn’t exonerate him. Even your buddy Ben Shapiro thought the manslaughter conviction was supported by evidence. He just didn’t believe in the murder conviction. You can’t be convicted on one charge and be exonerated (to be absolved of blame) at the same time.

I think the bottom line is objectivity. We’re all going to see things differently, but at least let’s all be well informed before we make conclusions.

I would like to think that just being in jail is punishment enough. The only good prisons do is terrify the criminally inclined (deterrence), keep criminals out of society for a while and satisfy the public's need for justice and vengeance. They do not turn criminals into better people, in fact they usually come out damaged, resentful and with no ability to function in normal society. In fact they may come out of prison with more criminal capabilities. Most are damaged people to begin with. And no I do not have a solution (although the Scandinavian countries have some good ideas with low recidivism rates to support them). Sad for the victims and their families and friends, sad for families of criminals and sad for society over all. At the very least there should be a path to redemption and a chance at a normal life after punishment. And why should society pay for it? Because in the long run it costs more when society does not pay for it.
