Another thing to note about the Nazis is the extremity of ruthlessness that their rivals did not have. After Hitler won a democratic election those who voted for him and others in government thought all the rhetoric was exaggerated. Soon they found themselves making compromises, again assuming Hitler was not serious about his views and ambitions or because they were scared of him. Hitler used the framework of a democracy to achieve totalitarianism. Trump likes to fire or ruin people who get in his way. Hitler had them killed. By the time people realized who Hitler really was and how real his ambitions were it was too late. Whatever the political philosophy, charisma + ruthlessness + combat experience = a deadly evil.

American democracy was threatened but will survive the ambitions of Trump, but what about the next time. Trump is a ruthless salesman, but he is a lazy and entitled rich boy. He half-assed an insurrection! Hitler was middle class, and as tough as nails. He had real combat experience and was down to fight.
