If nothing is done to punish anyone, it will set a bad precedent and make riots acceptable and a normal part of everyday life. But on the other hand, some people are saying impeaching Drunk Trump will only create more division. No single solution will be the perfect solution. But, I will say that impeaching Drunk Trump will do more good than bad.

Some post-inauguration thoughts:

At the time I started this thread I thought there would have been some chaos on inauguration day - I am happy I was wrong. And a coup is extremely unlikely in the next few weeks. While three quarters of people who voted for Trump say they still think the election was stolen, they are not willing to have a revolution over it. At the riot there was contingent of serious actors who did want an insurrection, showed this by their actions, and the gambled that a significant number of Americans would join them in their cause. They have not. Most Trump supporters want to scream and shout but they have no appetite for violence, and they are horrified that they could be arrested and charged or gunned down by the National Guard. Some of them even deny that their side is responsible for the riot and blame the nasty stuff on Antifa infiltrators despite all evidence to the contrary. The serious element while they are dangerous it turns out they are not capable of big things at this time. Some of them were stupid enough to live-stream themselves during the riot, most made no effort to disguise themselves and are now being arrested. Some of those arrested were probably thinking that Trump would have their backs and would give them pardons. He did not. The net effect has been that the far right have demonstrated that they are a real threat and will now be taken more seriously. And the US is being confronted with the realization that White Supremists have infiltrated law enforcement and military. America is now in for a house cleaning. Active memberships in far right movements will decline sharply, and those that remain will go underground for a while but will become more resolute.

Being cut off from posting on social media seems to have neutered Trump (for now). This shows how powerful social media is now, but also how lazy Trump is.

So, good news for now. But the US needs to address serious economic issues at the ground level to avert the next insurrection. I think that overcoming the pandemic and a huge infrastructure program could do this. And I think the US will do these things. Both Churchill and Thatcher made the observation that America always does the right thing after doing all the wrong things first.

Going to war is a multi trillion dollar industry. That's why Biden cancelled the Alberta pipeline on day one. By definition, those are "peaceful" protests. My theory is that Antifa sees these riots as a money-making opportunity. When Trump was around, they were paid to start them. Now they can be paid to stop them, so as not to embarass the Dems.

Biden can't even get a 20% like ratio on his "White House" channel videos.
They're also deleting 10's of thousands of dislikes from the videos... It's not about Trump anymore for me. (which it never was.)
Every news outlet is completely bias in one direction instead of being "subjective" about the situation.
They almost never report anything raw anymore either, even Canadian media has been massively taken over in this respect and usually have dislike ratios of 10-1.

I know one thing, I usually throw my vote away, but this time I'll be voting against Liberal, I've had enough of Justin Trudeau he's already been caught in so many self benefiting lies, and rolls over on every major issue, he rolls over every single time, or skirts around it until people forget after hearing the same thing for the 100th time on the news.
All I can really do is not vote Liberal, and even then it still won't do anything since we're allied with people that want to control, and create the very context that happens in reality rather then letting reality play out in a more natural fashion of choice.
That's the worse thing of it for me- there use to be an extent of choice in things that you could have that's just lessened, and lessened as time has passed here.

I use to associate being Canadian, as "being free", but now I don't feel that way anymore for a long time now, even pre-pandemic, post pandemic is even worse, as I feel we are in the rest of the worlds pocket, seen as an un-threating entity to be toyed with.

The Americans always do the right thing after they do the wrong thing first because they always get caught with their pants down. They are never ready for anything, no matter what it is, even after repeated warnings. The greatest mistake in recent history was the Alquida attack on New York City. The United States should have been prepared for that, but they never believed it would happen. The same can be said of the pandemic. There had been several warnings that the big one was coming, but nothing was done.
