I did say agree or disagree with regards to toppling statues. For me I hope people are awakened by such acts to understanding the history behind it that causes people to find a statue a personal affront to their lives and beliefs and take such actions. Lets be honest statues of people are always created to celebrate their accomplishments never their flaws. Toppling statues is not new it has been around for centuries. We may not remember al the names of the statues which were toppled following the collapse of the Soviet Union but we understand the frustrations of those who when given the opportunity toppled them. Do any of us here think the history of the persons who had their statues toppled have been better served had the statues remained? We can understand the toppling of former Soviet block leaders because we were all taught that the the Soviets' Union was bad.
I think the difficult thing here is as Canadians we have been given a vision of ourselves as Peace keepers, defenders of human rights, better then Americans. We even believe we treated or indigenous population better then the American did.
I encourage everyone to kwon their history. History does have a way of repeating itself. The history we don't know is the most dangerous kind.
