Pretty sure a superior court ruling overturned the law that said if you don't inform a person you sleep with that you have HIV that you can be criminally charged. It ruled in favor of the person's right to medical privacy.
If so, this means the Toronto Public health act is now in defiance of the law.

Ideally, It's a word with deep meaning. When it comes to legal matters, that you may get sued for not acting ideally, you always stay on the safe side. It is well understood in everyday practice of doctors, lawyers and even car dealers. Just picture this. Mr. X got STI, and was confirmed by test that now he has STD. His doctor knows about it. Two possibilities: He got it from someone other than his wife through sexual intercourse, Or he got it from his wife. In first case if his wife, which IDEALLY should be informed by his family doctor, was not informed and now she got the STI. she will go to her doctor for treating her symptoms and found out that she got STI. Now the question is where she got it from? If she didn't have sexual relationship other than her husband, she probably gets mad at her husband and files for divorce. Her lawyer WILL ask her husband's family doctor to release his medical notes for proof of guilt, just to make sure she got it from him. Now here is the IDEALLY comes to front seat. The lawyer will sue the doctor for acting non safe for the public health while he knew the consequences of not reporting and informing STI/STD. Every single doctor who I know, will follow this PN, Because lets be honest, we all have enough headaches in our lives and don't need to carry an other's on top of them. Second note; as I mentioned before, STI tests are done through different channel, and public health takes care of them. Even if your doctor doesnt report PN, they will follow up with your doctor, unless your friend doctor is ready to make a false report of PN for you.

To refresh your memory, you are claiming if you test positive for an STI, the "public health defender" will tell your family doctor to contact your wife to let her know her husband has an STI and she must get tested. If you don't bring your wife to your family doctor within one week then Public Health will come to your door and tell your wife and presumably anyone else who is home, because there is no privacy in public health.

This is the topic. You are warning people on this website this is the way the notification process works. Are you able to produce any evidence this is not all in your imagination, but rather the actual policy for reporting all STIs in Canada?

Didn't you say there was no privacy in public health? Once you test positive Public Health will tell whoever they want?

Please be advised that in most cases of STI, it takes few days to few weeks until symptoms start in the infected person. In Canada the statistics says sex between couples happens on average once every two weeks. So if there is something in one of the partners, has been transferred already. The point of informing is as you mentioned to get the spouse tested. That being said, I will not go further with this discussion. I see lots of people in this website much interested in BBFS, so the chance that someone who is married and got infected is high, if they not making the BBFS story up or being sarcastic about it ! Over 500 people have seen or read our conversation and maybe they can share their stories. I do appreciate your concern, but opposite to what you mentioned that I'm trying to scare people off, I'm NOT. I don't think people here are that stupid to not know if they take a bite of a red pepper with the seeds, it will burn. So someone might enjoy the hotness of chilly and takes the risk of afterward burn at the other end. I prefer to do it safe and do it for longer than get burned. Just imagine for a second that someone like Sleeze guy might be 10% honest, then either he infects someone or gets infected by someone. Number of infected people multiply by 1000s in two weeks. Gonorrhea (Very common one) can cause premature birth, stillbirth and eye infections in the fetus or newborn.

Other ones can cause:
The harmful effects to babies may include:

• Low birth weight (less than 5 pounds)
• Eye infection
• Pneumonia
• Infection in the baby's blood
• Brain damage
• Lack of coordination in body movements
• Blindness
• Deafness
• Acute hepatitis
• Meningitis
• Chronic liver disease, which can lead to scarring of the liver (cirrhosis)
• Stillbirth

So please don't make joke about kid's health and wellbeing.

Family Doctors never contact anyones wife. You two might have different Family Doctors so your doctor has no information of your wife. They ask you to ask your wife to come/go to the office for test. You will be the messenger. Health Canada will follow up with your doctor about the outcome of PN.
