Questions about hot towel cabinets

Hey gang!
I love my cabi,and I can't imagine working w/o one. I have tried rolled towels in my stone warmer before I got the cabi,but I was roasting from all the excess heat put out by the warmer ...I now feel much cooler in my massage room since I have been using my cabi. I really don't mind the extra laundry,cause a happy client is worth the inconvience. As far as aromatherapy goes, I have a couple of spritzes that I spray on my towels to enhance the experience-I use peppermint/vanilla for the cold months and cinnamon for warmer months. I also keep my cream jar warmed up by putting it in the cabi-clients love it.

Do any of you add aromatherapy to your moist towels? If so, is there a cost effective way to do this? I've played around by dipping my towels in a basin of water where I've added essential oils but I'm thinking that perhaps I should premix some oils in water and simply spritz the towels right before I roll them.

I know there is probably an obvious way to go about this, but lately my brain seems to want to make everything harder than necessary! :roll:

aromatherapy +hot towels, I wouldn't use any generally regarded as skin irritants on hot towels - no lemongrass, no cinnamon, no cloves, no peppermint, etc. As for therapeutic effects from the oils, most hot towel cabinets come with a UV light that will kill off most of the active ingredients anyway, along with bacteria, so you're not going to be getting therapeutic effects. Add the fact of how hot hot towel cabis are, they're breaking down the oils pretty quickly at high temps anyway.

Personally, I find so many people have allergies to essential oils these days, in particular lavender oil, I don't use essential oils in something I want to be able to use on everyone. Even though exposure from a hot towel is probably not enough, someone smelling some oil they are sensitive to can set them off. I think it's safer using food grade frangrance oils, but even then you've got the fragrance concern causing sensitive people to tense up, people don't understand perfums and essential oils are NOT the same thing. Plus fragrance oils are a LOT cheaper than essential oils.

Hey all,

I have been using a hot towel cabbi for about 2 years now, and I would not do anything different. First I started out just using one wet towel covered by one dry towel on the back after I was finished working on it. Then I worked at a spa that uses that plus one set for each foot, and a rolled warm dry towel for the neck when the client is supine. They love it! I tried using a crock pot and found the same problems. they just didn't seem to get warm enough quick enough, and they got cold fast.
This item is professional, and economical in my oppinion.
Double deckers are better for treatments such as salt glos or mud wraps, but you have to keep towles in the warmer from the beginning of the day. Makes things much easier when you need them.

I love my hot towel cabinet. I think the brand name is "hot cabi", not sure. I have tried heating towels in crocks pots and roasters. I like the crock pot for traveling but I could never get the temperature right. I found the roaster to be cumbersome- too big of a lid and too mcuh clanging. I have been using the hot towel cabi for years and love it as do my clients. Well, they like the hot towels and the ways that I use them. I find that it takes about 25-35 minutes to get my towels ready to use. I like to take them past the point of ready so I can shake it out before placing it on the client. My cabinet does make some noise though, kinda creaky sometimes. I also put my oil in there but I want to get something more specific for that function. I had an oil spill in there too and I think that the heat and the metal combined caused the slick to be permanent and I wonder if any of you know how to get it off? I find that the cabi is difficult to clean, I don't like the little water catching tray.


regarding aromatherapy with hot towels: frangrance is never good, groos, the thought of a frangrance being used on my body makes me sick, 100% EO only, thank you! and yes, I find that spraying the towel with a water/eo spritz is a good way to do this. even if the UV light does break down the chemical compounds of the essential oil the aroma still remains and isn't that the point? aroma? essential oils used too much or in a high concentration will cause skin rases and sensitivities. alway ask first. "would you like to have a therapeutic aroma during your treatment?"
I think it was a good investment.
