Sauna or Steam Room First?

Hi, ive recently started to use my local leisure centres steam room and sauna. Which one should i use first to get the most benefits for my skin. And what do they actually do?

Hi,
Just been to Centre Parcs (Penrith) where I took full advantage of the Aqua Sana Spa . I was advised to use the steam rooms in order of heat first, then I used the sauna, then the Turkish Hammam (sp?) last. I was advised to shower after each, and have a period of rest in between each too.

PS, as for what they do - each of the steam rooms I went into had different aromas and although the specifics of each escapes me now, they had a mulitiude of benefits!

Nice, thanks for the reply Blossom26. lol, you show off, i only wanted to know which one to goin first, now im jealous. Only Joking, sounds like you had an awesome time, the turkish hammam sounds good even though i dont have a clue what it is.i cant wait till i go on a health weekend, someday?

i have been using saunas ans steamrooms for a good few years now.

From what I have been told numerous times,

1) go into the sauna first while you are dry. dont put any water ont he coals for your first visit of about 15 minutes as this will give you dry heat and raise your core temp.
2) Takean ice cold shower
3) rest a few minutes or else return to the sauna
4) now you can put water on the coals, stay in for another 12-15 minutes
5) take a cold shower and rest for a while
6) repeat 4+5 as often as you wish

7) when youve had enough of sauna enter steam room for about 15 minutes
8) take cold shower to close all your pores and rest again for a while
9) repeat 7+8 as you wish

The unfitter and unhealthier you are the longer your rest perionds will need to be so that you dont overdo it/get dizzy/put strain on your CV system.


Oh, and bring a cold 2lr of water with you to drink while your resting

it amazes me how people dont drink water while they are saunaring

I am new to the whole steam shower and sauna scene and, alike to yourself, wondered what the actual health benefits were. hi , i have uses sauna and steam rooms here in the uk and in germany , buderpest as well .
what i cant get over .
is here in the uk . in sauna / steam rooms on men only days , you have to wear swimwear or shorts , going nude is not allow .
but in the other two countys where male and female , use the sauna / steam rooms togeather , you are not allow to wear any swimwear .going naked in the sauna steam rooms is a way of life .
i actual witness where people had gone in to the sauna / steam rooms with swimwear on .being ask to remove the swim wear or leave .
in germany freinds and familys reguaily take saunas togeather naked .
you will not wear shorts when having a shower at home ,so why on same sex days in sauna /steamds there instead you have to wear swimwear .
why not make it a case of choice .
or have a set time in the day when swimwear got to be worn or when you have the of choice to wear or not to wear ,
have read up on internet about steam rooms in other countrys .
question im asking you , if same sex in sauna . would you like the choice to go naked or would you object to other people being naked of the same sex .when you go abroad would or have you uses a mix steam / sauna naked that is mix ,
