Hi, this is Wolfi from Germany and it seems that I have read this article one day too late :-(

I walked Nanjing Road last night, when a girl stopped me and offered to bring me to a nice "ladies place" and price would only be 100RMB.

I know, very stupid, but I was horny and I believed her! We took the taxi and after 10 minutes we came to a place whre I was shon some nice girls. Since the room "wasn´t ready yet", I had one drink with the chosen girl and the mamasan, who spoke good English!
And I even asked her if it was only 100RMB because I was only carryng 200RMB with me!!

The rest is pretty much the same as Ixtans story, except that I negotiated the bill down from 5800 to 2000RMB. I told those mean looking guys that I didn´t have credit card etc. and that everything was paid by voucher, so I only have 500RMB left in my room but I can bring another 1500 the next day!

So they drove me back to the hotel, I gave them the 500RMB and today no one was showing up at the meeting place. I didn´t want to have trouble, so I was ready to pay the money.....so now I don´t know if I can spend the money for my real wife (who knows what type of guy I am, by the way, because I also organise gangbangs in Germany!!) or if I should carry it with me, because they know which hotel I´m staying at!?!

I hate being so stupid
But the girls on the street really offer to come with me to the hotel for just 100RMB, so how does that work then?????

Some advice would be great!!!

Well, it would seem that the crackdown has been ramped up once again. Now the police are going back to the popular saunas they hit during the last go around to see if they're still in business. I guess money isn't going to solve much this time. Be careful everyone, it looks like that this will continue for quite a while.

you can get them at most of the big fake goods markets like nanjing road, hongmei road, etc. you can also get the electric stun guns too...

however, they are actually illegal to carry and should the police catch you with one after an altercation, you will be taken in to the station.

its best to just stick to semi-busy places and stay alert and not obviously drunk.

No, you are not the only one. Generally, if any guy in Shanghai approaches you and asks you if you in English if you want to see some girls, they will take you to a place like this...and they get paid a commission. I had a similar experience except I paid up (credit card) after negotiating them down (and I never got a blow job). The way they trap you is that they show you a price list that charges drinks on a per ounce basis...but it makes you think the amount is per glass. Best advice is to avoid these places entirely. Second, I would recommend paying up...I realize you were upset, but a lot worse could have happened to you.

Quick update, a lot of girls are either going home or are moving to the Sauna on Wuzhong lu (which is pretty packed now apprently) I would seriously watch it though, as it's not gonna take the police long to figure it out (they probably allready know) Looks like Shanghai hotel and the spa on Jiaozhou road are gonna be closed a long time.

There's one place I know of that's pretty safe. It's not quite as good as Shanghai Hotel, but not far off. It's on the corner of Wuzhong Lu and Zhongshan lu. It's on Zhongshan lu, on the other side of the road of where Wuzhong lu starts. Cross, go left, walk back about 100 m, it's in a compound behind a bunch of shops, shop selling RV's there if I recall. Look out for the guy sitting behind the desk, he's the early warning guard, walk past him to the left to find the entrance.

A good trick to find spa's by the way: get a booklet from a small Japanese restaurant, usually full of ads in the back. You can figure out which ones are spa's by the asking price (aka 600-800 rmb)

last night I tried to go to the JY Sauna on Kanding Road....it was closed which i did not know. there were guys in front asking if I wanted to go to another place which I did....bad move...

a guy flagged a taxi and I went with him over to Beijing Road a few streets up. We got out and went upstairs to what looked like a gaudy KTV bar. A mamasan asked what I wanted and i told her i wanted to see the girls...

she brought in two porkers and I said I wasn't interested. She said just wait because there are some more girls coming soon. then she had some watermelon and fruit plates brought in...i asked for a beer and she brought in a few Budweisers and the two girls who were there sat and drank beer with me making some light chit chat...

a few minutes later a guy brought in a couple of girls of which one looked pretty decent. I chose her and everyone else left the room. to make a long story short, she gave me a blow job and after I came, she asked for 200RMB.
I paid her and she left.

The mamasan came back and I said thank you and how much was the beer? She gave me a bill that had itemized things written in Chinese and it totaled 4,578RMB. I said that is completely crazy and the most I would pay would be a few hundred. With that a tough looking guy came into the room and started pointing for me to sit down. I am fairly well built and I told him that I was leaving. then two more guys came in and so did the boss... they were trying to tell me to give them all my money and my wallet and I said I can go to the ATM and get money then come back....Obviously I wasnt going to.

The boss said that one of the guys and the mamasan would have to go with me. I said lets go to the ATM and as soon as we went out to the hallway, I saw there were another 3 guys sitting down the hall...I waited til we walked out and got into a taxi with them. when we got to nanjing road and there were a fair number of cars around, I waited til the taxi stopped at a light and then threw the door open and jumped out, running around the corner and hailing another taxi. the guy from the KTV with the mamasan came after me and i told the driver to drive fast....instead, he stopped the car and I had to jump out and barely escaped the guy coming after me...he got to the cab as I was getting out and he grabbed my arm and tried to hit me. I kicked him in the knee and gave him a punch to the face which caused him to go down....I could see the mamasan making calls frantically so at this point, knew they were trying to call in reinforcements so I ran as fast as i could and got another taxi a few blocks away.

Those guys run a shakedown operation and I would be surprised if i was the first one to get snared into it.

Next week I am heading to Shanghai to meet a supplier and feel lucky about finding this forum, but after reading about about the problems occuring in saunas I wonder if it is safe to go. I am a schlimazel and easily attract any kind of problems. Could it be that authorities only visit the well-known places?
It would be good to stay in a hotel with 'in-house' facilities. Some people told me that all hotel saunas offer full service. Is this true? Can anyone recommend a 4 or 5-star hotel that suits my needs and have pretty meydel? I am traveling on company expense and need to book an expensive hotel. If I stay in a cheap hotel, my finance department will know immediately what is going on.

Just when it looked like things had calmed down a bit again, one of the girls at the Shanghai hotel sauna told me the owner was arrested last week. It will be closed for at least a month.

Jiyuan has a sauna still operating on Wuyi road and I think the Wuzhong road one is still open, but I'd excercise extreme caution at the moment. There's a couple of other (lesser) places still open that I know of.

On the plus side, if you know any of the girls, they're all out of work for a month or more, so they'll be happy to hang out with you outside. I know a bunch that might want work if anybody's interested.

Other than avoiding golden hours, there are a few things that I can think of. If possible, try staying at the hotels where the saunas are and get the girls to come up to your room. Once out of the sauna center, the police can't really track the movement of the girls. Not all hotel saunas will allow this or will only approve this for frequent customers so ask before you book. Even if they do let the girls come, you won't get the full service menu given the lack of amenities in your room but it is the safest way by far. Next, plain cloth cops on a raid likes to bring unmarked white vans to the places. If you see a bunch of white vans parked outside the sauna, be extremely cautious. Lastly, if you're doing the deed in the sauna and all the sudden the girl starts to rush you out, don't ask questions and just follow her lead. Pretty much all the saunas have some sort of early warning system such as someone standing watch outside or in the hotel lobby. Some even have silent warning lights in the rooms. Also the fact that all the bigger sauna centers have multiple floors and maze-like interior room layout works quite well in delaying the cops when they do show up.

Again, these are just some precautions as there's no fool proof way to guarentee that you won't get nabbed. Still, the chance of customers actually getting caught in the act is quite slim but it never hurts to be careful.

Oh and I'm not entirely sure of what happens when a Chinese citizen is caught. Most likely they have to pay fine and do some time in jail. I've only heard of a couple of Japanese businessmen who got caught during the past month and public security called their employers to come bail them out. Needless to say their employers shipped them backed home and handed them the pink slips. As for tourists getting caught, well, they'll just kick you our of the country after a few nights in jail and put you on blacklist so you can't get a China entrance visa again.

I just got back from Shanghai after another 2 weeks stint. This time however things were a bit different. Due to the Shanghai World Expo next year, the Shanghai public security are more frequently raiding the more notorious & popular saunas. I'm not talking about the uniformed cops coming in once in a while to "inspect" the joints so they can get some payoff. Those guys are of no threat since the management knows exactly when they're coming and how much money to line their palms with. I'm referring to the plain cloth cops coming in unannounced slamming service boys against the wall, taking girls, managers and customers out in cuffs. Needless to say if you're a foreigner who got caught, you can pretty much kiss your chance of getting a China entry visa in the future goodbye.

Anyways, some of the most popular saunas have already been hit during the last month such as Shanghai Hotel, Jiyuan 1-4, Shenchuan (Xiangmihu) and so on. Things were so bad that for a week, Shenchuan (Xiangmihu) had to rent 4 rooms on the 8th floor of the hotel just to be able to operate. Most of these saunas are also suffering from a shoreforum.xxxe of girls since many have either resigned or simply refused to come to work until things have calmed down. Also as a result, Jiyuan 3 on Wuzhong Road decided to change their name to Yaohong since the Jiyuan name is infamous in Shanghai.

Now, things have calmed down some during the past week or so (let's just say large sums of money/fine were paid) but there's no guarentee that plain cloth cops won't come knocking again. Paying money may get you some peace and quiet for a while but only the local government knows how long they'll leave you alone.

Basically, just be careful and take precautions if you do decide to frequent these saunas during the next year such as avoid the golden hours (8pm-12am). Actually, I would recommand you guys avoid the saunas all together during the 4 months of World Expo next year.
