I am curious about this shilling stuff. I am an art dealer and i promote young artists and sell their paintings, sometimes i write reviews for them and say they are great artists and try to push their paintings, thats promoting and advertising, its good business not shilling. So what is the difference?

I'm sure one of the longer-term, non-lurking members can put it better but I get the idea that people are sensitive to the idea that they might be getting manipulated into spending/wasting their time (and money!) on providers who benefit from inaccurate reviews posted by people ("shills") with ulterior motives, usually either being affiliated with the SP or hoping to get freebies.

Put it this way: If you misrepresent your artists, your clients once deceived would have a right to be pissed. Not that it's in any way a direct comparison.

Illiterati, you are right on the mark. Peaceful, the difference between advertising and shilling is quite clear. Advertisers do not hide their relationship to the seller so their words are always taken with a grain of salt.

The MP scene use to be full of BS but I find things have changed significantly. The successful MP’s today provide a service that’s delivered well, consistently and honestly. These MP’s do well regardless of the level of services they provide. Just look at the respect this board has for MP’s or masseuses like Isis, Maylee, Lily in St Henri Julie/Tina from 6700 Sherbrooke or Miki. And when I say Miki I’m referring to her alone. There’s no better advertising than positive reviews by solid members that don’t have a hidden agenda.

Unfortunately there are still some masseuses and MP’s who operate like we were back in the 90’s and think we are all fools and are here to be exploited. There are masseuses who are suggesting to us in their words or manner that we will get “Gold” next time or after 5 times when it’s never going to happen. Or they are saying I really like you and I’m giving it to just you so keep coming back so we can have a $150/hr relationship at your expense. The senior board members are great at exposing that crap.

But then there are some owners with the same disrespect for us as the above masseuses. They come here under cover or through a hidden associate and provide us with a glowing review. Well buddy if you actually had a great session it’s fine to tell us about it but you also need to tell us about your association and let us decide if your session had anything to do with that connection.

The worst shill is that poster who exposes his handle to the MP and tells the masseuse she will get glowing reviews for favors. That loser is exploiting us and so is the masseuse if she agrees to it. How stupid is that? The very next guy will be scratching his head if he’s not getting the same and yes Illiterati he will definitely be pissed.

I don’t understand how any of this can be considered a good thing. Pissed clients often lead to trouble for the MP.
