The original question was what will happen if the number of deaths reaches one million in United States.

My answer to that starts with another question; will it reach one million?

Probably not. 7 months into this pandemic, we have 137,000 deaths in United States. The virus will certainly slow down before it gets anywhere near one million.

And, who is Joe Biden's running mate going to be? Because the VP candidate will probably have a better chance of ousting Trump than Biden himself. Nothing personal against Biden. But I don't think a person who has nearly died from a brain aneurysm has the physical capacity to take on the pressures of the presidency of the largest power of the world.

There may be some monkey business in the election (not enough places to vote, an October surprise, some kind of emergency, rigged voting machines, etc). The Democrats need to win with a significant edge. Biden can do that if he picks the right running mate. I think Susan Rice would be the best choice - highly accomplished, very intelligent, non controversial and as far as I know she has no baggage, unlike Kamala Harris. At the very least she would not be feared or disliked in the swing states. Elizabeth Warren knows how to appeal to conservative people so do not count her out either.

I do not think the pandemic will go away without serious effort. As for the issues being raised by BLM, sadly there is a long history of slow progress. Margaret Thatcher once said that Americans always end up doing the right thing - after doing all the wrong things first.

Here is a back of the envelope calculation - 5% death rate, 50,000 infections a day means they would get to a million deaths in 344 days if infections/deaths continue at the same rate. Another calculation is if no containment measures are made resulting in 50% of the US eventually getting infected, with a 5% death rate the death number becomes about 8 million. I think at some point all the decision makers will get serious and this will be curtailed, or a viable vaccine will become available. Note the first calculation assumes linear progression, whereas uncontrolled spread is exponential, so things could get much worse.

As to the death toll in USA, the same scientist delivered messages back in Jan 2020 that the hydroxychloroquine is very effective to treat patients. However, because Trump recommended it everyone was trying to prevent people from taking it. That's why the death toll in the USA is so high.

All those protestings definitely made the pandemic even worse and Fauci didn't give a clear message to the public. The Chinese Communist Party fueled those protestings by giving money and messing social media.

So, guys, please wake up. You don't need to like Trump. But he's a true fighter and the Chinese Communist Party is trying every possible way to bring him down. For the sake of the future of this world, please support him not Biden.
