Crazy times....a few months ago while getting my haircut in the mall, some fellow received his cut and bolted out the door as soon as he got out of the chair. Instead of paying the hairstylist at the desk, he was making tracks out of the mall. Going forward, if you are not a repeat customer the business requires you to pay upfront.
About a week ago while line at 7/11, a guy got the employee to get him a hotdog from that mini grill that they have going in the 7/11's.
Once the guy was handed his hotdog...instead of paying at the till he just kept going for the door and jumped into his running van. Another customer ran out to get a pic of his getaway van. I laughed as my thought was that was stolen as well. Ha!
So it's everywhere, just not massage establishments. Kinda like watching the collapse of society in real time with all the shenanigans that go on daily.

This is not all that far from the truth. In the states, “smash and grab” in retail is so rampant that the security guard industry is struggling to keep up with the demand. Many larger chain stores have issued policies to just allow it as long as the value is below a set criteria. And many of the smaller chains are just locking everything up or moving to online solutions.
I’ve heard from my kids that teenagers are now doing this just for shits and giggles because no one is trying to stop them. Look at how the 7-11’s are closing up shop in crime riddled areas in Edmonton.
The fact that we are seeing it in the service industry reflects how the lack of security and enforcement there is in the retail sector. However “dine n dash” has been around since I was a young criminal and still exists. Not all that much different.
Being the only real ramifications to dashing on your bill in the service industry is that at the very least the business may have enough details to ban you from returning or refuse you should you try. However with turnover and complacency, it’s only a matter of time, really.

A couple of years ago I went to xiaoping and after the session gave the girl her tip from my back pocket , I keep room fee in front pocket,
I was distracted by thinking of my errands to run, put on my shoes and went to Superstore. Put my hand in pocket to get shopping cart money and room fee is still there.
Got back in car drove back to xiaoping and walked back in to pay at the desk with apology.
Linda said that's ok I knew you would either come back or pay next week.

Weird shit like that happens when you are honest and treat people well, eh?

That level of being distracted is very relatable for me - and my impulse in that situation would have been to do exactly what you did.

What? That’s bizarre….treating people like they are humans, and respecting their boundaries? Dang, no way that will work out well for you…

I’m not used to being asked to pay up front in semi-legit places….but if I am asked, I will. The odds of me enjoying myself go way down if she’s wondering if I’m going to try to stiff her, or she’s on edge because of conflict with me over whether or not I should have to pay up front.

I’m under no illusions over the mostly transactional nature of a visit….but that doesn’t mean that things can’t be improved if each person in the room is willing to make things easier/simpler/less stressful for the other.

Some knobs scoot without paying. Then she is going to be paranoid for awhile, but not with her regular clients. A good proportion of clients actually are regs, at least of the spa if not the girl, so its just new clients who get that treatment.

I was with my regular today. She does not like guys that complain about service and want discounts. Some only want to pay half up front then try to get a discount after. I always pay her in advance and I pay her well. She is well worth it.

We often go out and just chill. There is a respect and a genuine affection shared . Paying up front shoukd not be an issue.

If you a newer customer to the spa and have not built any trust with them then you should expect to pay up front! But if you have a very good relationship with the spa you are at and even if girl is new hire , then they will most likely vouch for you and say not to worry and will be paid after your appointment is finished! This has been my experience over the years ! If service is sub par then they may not get the full tip but the spa knows me well enough that it takes extremely poor service for this to happen! ! And has only happened a very very few times over the many years that I have been a client of there’s !

First time visiting a place, or first time with a particular gal, ya, I'm ok with fronting the cash before starting.
After the gal gets to know you, as a regular or just someone they recognize, then I'd hope the up front payment would be relaxed... but if it isn't... no harm, no fowl !
Hard to get fussed over this... just my $0..02 worth.

I don't understand why guys make such a big deal about this. Assuming you do intend to pay and not rip off the lady, what difference does it make if you pay upfront or after? I always prefer to p[ay upfront and get this business part out of thew way. The lady, then, also knows that she is not getting stiffed so she can relax which means you will get her undivided attention.

These ladies aren't a steak dinner. Paying up front is industry standard for FS and independent girls for sure.
