Thanks for that Nicke, cos I have been to both the one in KL and Singers and didn't notice it being expensive, shows what a cheapo charlie I've become as when I saw the price of burger etc, I thought well thats crossed off my list then!!!, rubbed it out now and put it back on.

Is there any other bars with live bands in Patong, Karon or Kata? I have been on one bar between Karon and Patong a few years ago and I do not know if it still is there? I want to sit down and have a beer and see some live rockn roll. Does anybody know if that exist?

I'd ALMOST pay to see that, yet I think it would be local beef and you couldn't stand on your head long enough to cook that buffalo ( local beef) burger.

but labor wages are extremely low so should effect the cost of food, i woudl think
and i cant see construction/land costs being that much out of whack with a prime location in NYC

It's expensive....so what? If people want it, then they'll pay, otherwise it will go bust. There are many people in Phuket that pay 10-20K baht per night for a room, so obviously, some people won't be worried about the prices.

That is expensive, but like Billpay said, some people will pay. Families staying at the Holiday Inn, Courtyard by Marriott, nearby Patong Merlin will go to the Hard Rock.

I am sure those paying high season prices at Holiday Inn wont mind paying 500 baht for burgers.

Anyway the price of food and drinks at Hard Rock KL is ok for me. I don't mind going there once a while, the Hard Rock Platter is really nice and big big big portion for 4 to share.

Will check it out when i get to Phuket in 10 days, woooHOO!!

we must shop in different supermarkets Benjy...thought i paid around 300bht per kg last time I bought some decent quality mince beef...may have been aussie beef though...I do take my burgers and bolognese seriously...555

I think its around 100 per kilo, at least when I buy it that seems to be the price (Thai French though - maybe a Tops special), It's double the cost of ground pork if I remember correctly.

Think the Wagyu Beef Burgers from Villa Market are 199 baht a pop, uncooked. But they go down like butter.

Bee and I were in the city, just past the horse guards and near trafalgar.. Bees getting the hungries and I expected this to set me back big time for a crappy nibble.. Randomly chose some eatery, huge subterranean layout, really nice set piece meal with choice of starters, one at (from memory) 7.95 and an expensive fish one at 9.95.. Starters and salads, way more than expected came out stuffed and surprised.

Both meals and a pint for +- 20 quid.. City of london in prime prime real estate location next to massive global tourist attraction. Meal and beer for +- 1100 baht, shocked me in fact.

I personally think when prices are matching city of london tourist pricing, for a burger and fries, in a developing country.. That somethings up. I mean, these staff make London wages ?? Or pay London rates ?? Or or or..

I am not even saying I wont go there, if thats the local prices thats what I have to pay, but doesnt mean that it feels right.

Surely a USA wage is higher than a Thai wage for building a car? yet they are often twice the price here than in the USA. same goes for absolutely everything built here.

You don't price something on what it costs to make but what price you can get for it within your market (caveat .... above what quantity sales would make up for if your priced it low).

Kinda curious to see what a 500 Baht burger looks like, not saying I would buy one but can sip a bottle of water and enjoy the sounds.

rock hard has 2bars in patong, other bms have said the one at the end of bangla opens around 2pm, so you can get an early start there and dirctly opposite is margharita bar which plays live stuff nightly iirc.
